Awful

We went to this site at the end of August 2024. When we arrived there the lady had a massive attitude towards us. Didn’t want to speak any English even though it says that they can speak English, when we were booking in she pointed to a sign saying that they don’t accept any credit cards that are underwritten by Visa or Master Card. Which takes all the UK cards out of the equation. So straight away all our Swiss cash went straight away to the campsite. They handed me a sheet of paper saying that although they allow dogs they aren’t allowed to go for a walk anyway on the campsite even though it says there is walking on the campsite on there page. The walking nearby is right outside the campsite and it’s only on the roads that have no pavements. So it makes it very dangerous for walking the dogs. It also says that they are a quiet campsite but the are right beside a loud crazy golf that from 10-10 every day is loud. It’s also not very easy to navigate when you have crutches, I would say not disabled friendly. We ended up leaving early as it was the worst campsite we’ve ever been to. I don’t know who said it was dog friendly from the Caravan Club as it’s anything but. Definitely would not recommend this campsite. We will never go back here

Unpleasant stah

Just seen all the other reviews for this site and seems like we stayed somewhere different! Very unpleasant stay overall mainly due to the staff Booking through CAMC you would expect some tolerance of the English, this was literally the worst experience we had in 3 weeks in Europe where we felt the least welcome. The unpleasantness was immediate, so was unsure what we could have done to rattle the lady who we dealt with other than our nationality. She spent the whole of our stay in the bar next to reception drinking with 2 other men that didn't greet us - this just come across as passive aggressive generally. It is cash only, we didn't try the food as we didn't feel comfortable with the atmosphere near the main building. The pitches are large but have no privacy from any side. The facilites are clean... But there is literally a map for it due it seemingly having an unnecessarily Confusing layout. It's not the biggest problem just a bit odd really! We were told the barrier is locked until 8am so we were unable to get out early for a hike. Paid for WiFi and had good signal but kept repeatedly dropping out so couldn't use it anyway. Certainly wouldn't recommend or go there again myself.

Fantastic location don’t overlook this

We booked 12 nights and decided on private bathroom what s fantastic place. Unfortunately for the site work was going on in the lane adjoining so bit of an early start for workers, so bit of noise still enjoyed our stay. Outwith owners control. Bread on site Crusty crains our favourite. Facilities great even though we paid for private facilities others were clean and spacious. Friendly hosts always busy making the site spik and span. Lots of places to visit Barrage Dixence, Moiry and the Pyramids At Evolene to name a few. Hopefully will return no downsides at all thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We had super pitch due to outfit size well worth the money fully serviced.

Didn't live up to expectations

I'm sorry but I think we must have been at a different site from the other reviewers. We arrived and were greeted by Petra who held out a booking form, said our surname and then marched off to show us our pitch. Not very impressed and the lack of caravans also made me dubious. Her English was very poor and we had difficulty getting on the correct pitch. The pitch was adequate but I had concerns that if a caravan pitched in front and behind we would not get out due to an adjoining hedge. There is a note about any disturbance between 10pm and 8am but that doesn't seem to apply to the locals who use the bar as a local pub. We used the restaurant once and that was enough. Menu was small and service appalling. Meal was delivered and the Petra retired to the bar area to spend time with the locals. It took 45 mins for her to come back to see if we had finished. WiFi is available for a nominal fee of 10CHF per week, that's a joke! We paid Petra for WiFi and questioned whether this was for one device or more. We eventually got an answer that it didn't matter but more use would eat into the 10CHF. When we came to leave at the end of the week Mario demanded 50CHF for WiFi use. My wife told him we had already paid Petra but he was adamant she pay 50CHF. She did not and in the end he told her to "Just go". The irony is that we left site each morning 7am or earlier and returned after 8pm most days. How the hell could we use that amount of WiFi? This site would be ideal to use as a base as it is only 5mins drive from a main railway station but that is all it has going for it. I suggest these sites get visited before being recommended by the CAMC. For instance there are two pictures in the gallery of a lake, there is no lake anywhere nearby! Nearly all signs were in German and we all got the feeling they didn't want us there. Suffice to say, it is not a site we shall revisit.

A real Swiss Gem!

We stumbled across this site a few years ago and have happily used it ever since. The site appears to be family run and the owners have always been friendly and extremely welcoming. We are a large outfit but have always been accommodated to suit as the pitches are generally large and more than adequate, with service facilities adjacent to most. I can not fault how clean the toilet blocks are and literally it is like being in a home from home. First impressions on arrival of the immediate area are generally quite stunning, considering the site is located in a town but the views, NEVER cease to take our breaths away the following morning when we open the caravan door and glance up in ore of the alps. We Love this site and are hoping to use it for many years to come all being well! Thoroughly recommend

Lovely, well kept site

Beautiful campsite. There are mountain views everywhere you look and very centrally located just off the main road between Sion and Brig. A good spot for touring the region and there a local train station within walking distance, where you can also park the car every day. There are 2 good supermarkets in the local village of Susten and the Tourist Information Office, by the station, was also extremely helpful. Camping Gemmi is very well kept and peaceful. Have a 'curfew' between 10pm and 8am. Showers and toilets are some of the cleanest we've come across. You can order fresh bread every morning and they have small restaurant plus 'take-away' cabin which is open every evening. The owners, Mario and Petra, are extremely helpful. We stayed for 10 nights and would definitely return. They have a folder of recommended tours and walks from the site and we used several of these. Breathtaking views - if you've never been to Switzerland and are wondering about it, we would highly recommend staying at Camping Gemmi!

Peace at last

This was our second stay in Gemmi. The owner and his wife always give a great welcome. They both work from morning till night keeping the site in immaculate order. The toilet facilities had been updated and were well maintained. Pitches were large and spacious. Wifi was great in the caravan and no problem using FaceTime. Great location for walking and recommend a trip to the nearby town of Sion with its twin castles. We think Gemmi is a hidden gem. Definitely will return.
