Good for families

August 2019

We have just returned from 12 nights on this site with a stop over at Bremen each way. The original part of the site is very level but we opted for one of the newer sections away from the main building. There are a number of different sorts of cabins on parts of the site and a well equipped communal kitchen and eating areas for all to use. The patio area is very attractive with lots of impressive potted plants. A new shower block has been built in recent years, although each has only 3 showers and, if you had to wait, the cleaning 'fairies' would give you a token for the family bathrooms. Annette and Taco, the owners, are always very helpful and put a lot of effort into making your stay enjoyable. There are lots of nice little touches like putting coffee out in the morning and perfume/aftershave in the shower areas. There is a huge amount to do in the area; the Fredericksburg castle in the town is a must see and we hired bikes in the town (Obro Cykler) to explore the surrounding parkland. The Copenhagan Card was really cost effective, with regular trains from Hillerod (train fare included!); we visited the Tivoli Gardens, the royal palaces, Planatarium, Experimentarium, National museum, Aquarium and enjoyed a boat tour around the canals. Roskilde is not far away and we visited the Cathedral and the Viking ship museum where we got to row out on the fjord in a Viking ship! We also went to Helsingor and enjoyed the sand sculptures at Hunsted. You can get to Sweden in about an hour over the Oresund bridge (buy a Bro pass!). We will certainly use the site again, although it's a bit of a way from the Hook of Holland the journey is more than worth it.
