Good for families

Could do much better

Been continental touring for over 40yrs & after a great trip through France & Spain in may/June decided to return to France In Aug with grandkids. For one base chose C.Indigo Oleron as clubs description of " family friendly, simple, back to nature site which seemed ideal particularly as location nr beaches & cycle tracks is v good .Childrens activities/entertainments also good. However other issues come into play. Firstly access is difficult (outfit 6.9m shipping l.)along narrow tracks & 3 vehicles had to be moved to gain pitch.Pitches generally are cheek by jowl & the whole camp feels overcrowded. The camp relies heavily on student vocational staff which would be ok if under proper direction. In spite of twice daily cleaning of sanitary areas we were far from happy over cleanliness issues & preferred using c/van on board facilities. There were drain problems around sanitaires 2 & basins for laundry often unusable due to silting up.I do have photos of a badly overflowing Chem toilet point situated inches to fresh water taps which was of concern. The swim pools are minuscule relative to numbers on site -standing room only on hot days. On site catering is v basic & the adjacent eating area consists of grubby looking picnic tables. Surely our experience was by necessity at peak season but other sites visited on our trip were light yrs ahead in terms of efficiency/cleanliness etc. The wi fi facility was also v unreliable. Can't understand why the site qualifies for inclusion in the Club brochure as we were not alone with our opinion. Maybe things are much better off peak ?
