Good for families

Our first time abroad with the caravan.

Arrived 24th July 2018 for 9 nights. Our first overseas holiday with the C&MC. Kompas Camping is a large commercial site with lots of tents, touring caravans, static vans and seasonal pitches. We were only 1 of 3 British families out of probably 1000. After an initial difficulty finding it with not many signs and Belgian postcodes not being up to much we arrived easily from the nearby channel tunnel. The staff were friendly and spoke good English but there is no English version of the site map available. We had booked a comfort xl pitch which was huge, plus it had water and waste on the pitch which we didn't expect as well as ehu. The grass pitch we were on was surrounded by hedging, all grounds were tidy and well kept. We were a good 10 minutes walk to the facilities which includes a pool complex, supermarket, bar and restaurant. The kids loved the pool, we used the shop everyday for fresh bread and croissants which were amazing. We didn't use the bar or eat there. There are several shower/toilet/wash up blocks that were clean and tidy, loads of hot water and decent showers. There is only chemical toilet emptying at these blocks so a small trolly to carry your toilet tank would be handy if it doesn't have wheels in case you are far away. There is full recycling on site to include glass, cardboard/paper, plastics and tetra packs however there is only 2 main areas for this that we saw so we ended up dropping our recycling daily in the car on the way out as it was a reasonable walk from out van. Town is about 2km away and there is an Aldi and Lidl within 5km. There is a number of vets in the town if you are travelling with pets. The site doesn't seem to have any dog poo bins and there weren't many dogs on site. The area is well suited to cycling (we didn't take ours) and easy access to cycle routes all over. Brugge is about half hour away as is famous sites like Tynecot cemetery and Menin Gate. All in all we had a lovely 9 nights away and would stay on this site again.
