What a find

Campsite easy to find with coordinates. Warm welcome at reception even though we arrived fairly late in the day. Good pitches, although they are back to back which does not leave a lot of room between you and your neighbour. The electricity has to be connected by a member of staff after you have pitched up. Shower rooms were roomy and there was plenty of hot water. When we visited they had put insect/bird straps on the main doors so we did not have problems with bird droppings etc. Fresh water and grey water points nearby as were the bins. There were also facilities to wash your unit if needed - first time we have seen that option. El Rocio is certainly an eye opener. As described by other reviewers, it is like something from the Wild West - but in a good way. Not a scrap of tarmac to be seen - all the streets are just sand. There are tethering posts outside nearly every building for your horse and you really have to visit it to appreciate how unique it is. A word of warning, if you are walking around town keep a watch out for cars, as they seem to drive wherever they want to drive (difficult to put street markings on sand!!). The church in town is fantastic, and they have a pilgrimage yearly which can attract up to 1M people, so if you want to stay then book early! There are plenty of restaurant/bars and gift shops to wander around. There is a beautiful lake in from of the church, which was empty when we first arrived 13th December but when we returned on the 19th it had filled up after horrendous thunder storms. We had a very sleepless night debating on how to get our air awning down before it was blown away. All in all a very interesting and completely different town - we explored a fair bit of the surrounding area and it was all very well kept. If you are looking for something completely different, this is well worth a visit.
