Love it or hate it

We were on site from mid-January to mid-February 2015 and having read some of the reports of thefts after we had booked were just a little concerned. However while I have no doubt that some thefts occurred none of the campers we spoke to had had any problems and most pitches had things left out that I would have thought would not have been there if there was a serious problem. In addition as far as we could see the site was patrolled at night by security staff in golf buggies. As to the site itself it is quite large being just over half a mile from end to end and is divided into sections each with its own shower block, toilet and washing facilities. These were kept extremely clean and I could not fault he facilities provided except to say that toilet paper was not located in each toilet but in a container outside so you had to guess how much you needed before entering the cubical; an interesting exercise. Also there is no space in the shower cubicles to put your clothes so changing is a fairly public affair. Each pitch is separated from the next by a screen of shrubs/trees about 7ft high that are kept well-trimmed and has water, electricity and grey waste water facilities. Just one point to mention is that the electricity may be reverse polarity, certainly our pitch had but whether that is the same for all pitches I don't know. The site is well signposted off the RM-12 and is reached by a service road in each direction. We used a satnav to get to the site N 37.6244 W 0.7447 and these coordinated deposited us at the front entrance. Reception is open 24 hours and certainly our experience was that there was always someone on reception who spoke English. Just behind reception is Spar supermarket that is open every day including Sundays and provides a reasonable range of food, toiletries, frozen products and meat. They also supply a range of gas cylinders and in the case of Repsol cylinders a suitable regulator. Additionally there is a small section devoted to a limited range of tools, cooking utensils and general hardware. Other facilities are also adjacent to reception such as a clinic and cash machine. The clinic was closed during our stay but the cash machine was very useful. At the far end of the site is the bar and restaurant overlooking the Mar Menor. The restaurant serves a range of small tapas dishes at lunchtime. These dishes are good value and on Thursday when we were there the deal was 2 for 1. We also ate at the restaurant and the standard of the food was in general good, certainly in the case of the menus of the day it was excellent value for money costing between 11 and 13 Euros for a 3 course meal with a bottle of wine and coffee. To the right of the restaurant is a medium size beach with medium coarse sand but it was clean and litter free. There is path/cycle at the top of the beach that leads to the small village of Playa Honda In the village there is a chemists where limited English is spoken and a couple of bars, if you ignore the

Fantastic campsite

We stayed with our 26' caravan whole of March. Returning end April for another two weeks. We met many people who overwinter on this site every year, so it proves its popularity. We had a good site with more space than most sites we visited in the previous three months. We used the toilet and shower facilities every day, and they were always spotless. The staff were always helpful and friendly. There are so many facilities, 8 tennis courts, boules, football pitch, pool and gym, plus activities in the clubroom/restaurant most days and evenings. Yes, we affectionately call part of the site "shanty town" but the caravan pitches are nowhere near this area. I think if you read the info. from the brochures, you get a good idea of what to expect. Like many others, we are looking forward to going back. Hope people are not put off by a rather negative review. Go, see for yourself, and have fun - that is what all the long-stayers are doing.
