The best camping I ever been

The location is just amazing: absolutely the best you can find in Lake Como. The view is stunning, all the campsite is really clean, and the staff is one of the most helpful ever.

excellent site with amazing scenery

Had a great week at this excellent site in early September. Superb location and largish pitches by Italian standards. Great views of lake, river and surrounding mountains and located next to river and a really nice grassed area. Site is maintained to a very high standard with excellent facilities and really nice swimming pool

Sat by campsite Pool

This is our second year here at this wonderful site with excellent facilities. The pitches are small compared to UK standards but we'll segregated by trees offer welcome shade. The site is well run a very tidy, with staff very helpful and English is widely spoken. The site sits on the northern edge of Lake Como which is quieter surrounded by mountains making the views breath taking. For the essentials there is a short pleasant walk to the village (Sorico) which has restaurants and small supermarket. The only downside is mobile reception is sporadic, they may be good? The site has a small bar/ cafe and you can enjoy the water by renting pedalos, canoes etc. Looking forward to planning our next trip here.

What's not to like!

This is a family run site and we've just returned from our second visit, the first being six years ago. The views are stunning and the evening lightening storms are amazing. Plenty to do in terms of local history, cycling, walking and there is good access to Bellagio, Como, Milan and St. Moritz. Locally, the waterfall at Chiavenna is a must see, Colicco and Gravadona along with Menagio are great places to go with plenty of restaurants/bars serving great food in lovely surroundings. In the village of Sorrico there is a fantastic bakery but get there early as the freshly baked brioche and bread sell out quickly! Spluga pizzeria and restaurant is a must go to, sit outside to fully appreciate the waiters fate....... If you successfully navigate your way through the tunnels you'll find a friendly welcome awaits from Anna and the team at La Riva. The pool, toilets/showers and service areas are spotless. The added bonus is direct access onto the lake. The only thing that stops me giving the place a 5 is the wifi being largely limited to the reception/bar area.

Very nice site

Stayed here for 6 nights in early September. Checking in was easy and the lady spoke very good English. The site itself was very clean and not too busy. Took a drive down to Como for the day along the West side road although I would not recommend this road with a caravan or large motor home despite what others many say. If you do not suffer from any damage then you would be extremely lucky. A day visit to Varenna was probably our highlight and if you do go then drive past the town square and park in the multi storey car park which was reasonably priced and better than driving around trying to get a free park. Not too sure what you would do with a motor home though. Ah the joys of having a caravan!

Stunning Site Location

Arrived via the west side of the lake (no issues with a 7.4 metre caravan), although the road can be a little narrow in places. The site was easy to find, just off the main road. We arrived in July and the campsite is very full then with pitches very close together. At times driving around the site is tricky with not much room to manoeuvre (a couple of people had to move their cars when we passed through with the caravan on tow). The site is very pleasant with absolutely stunning views of the mountains surrounding it. The facilities are clean & well cared for, with a lovely pool if you fancy taking a dip. The pitches all have water for each caravan, but no drainage so you’ll need to use your waste tank. Electricity is a little tight at 6 amps, so we used gas for the fridge & hot water, even then it still tripped out occasionally. Easy access to the village of Sorico via the lakeside footpath. Further afield there is much to explore around the lake with Menaggio, Bellagio & Varenna being particularly picturesque. Ferries across the lake are frequent in the main areas. All in all a great campsite that I don’t hesitate in recommending.

Stunning location

Lovely clean and quiet campsite at top end of Lake Como - and unlike other campsites (of which there are many) along the lake, La Riva have ensured that not all their lakeside pitches are taken by long-term caravans, so holiday guests do get the chance of a lakeside pitch, which we were lucky enough to get. In low season, pitches are very generous in size and we had plenty of room to park our 9m motorhome, put up an awning, and set up our loungers and table & chairs. Toilets and washing facilities are modern and kept very clean - showers cost €1 for 4 minutes (buy tokens from the bar) – considering the washing, washing up and laundry sinks allow users unlimited hot water, the charge for the showers seems a bit ‘tight’… Perhaps the club could negotiate for tokens to be included in the package? Washing machine is available for €5 Staff are very friendly – speak good English and happy to assist with bus and train times etc and the welcome pack on arrival is fantastic. Sadly the pool was shut (we arrived 24 September) but looked adequate in size – given the glorious weather we enjoyed during our stay, it would have been nice if the pool had been open, but this is a minor point. Local village (15 min walk) has a nice restaurant (Biffi) and little shop for the essentials. Larger supermarket is available in Domaso, or you have the hypermarket towards Colico. There is a nice cycle / footpath running along the campsite boundary and takes you around the lake – although after Domaso the path becomes difficult to follow and does involve cycling along the main road for a while – several nice eateries along the way although make sure you have a decent bike lock as an attempt was made on one of our bikes whilst parked up. Highly recommend driving or catching the bus into Menaggio and making use of the hop-on-off ferries to explore Verrano and Bellagio – you can also catch a bus to Colico which connects with the train into Milan. Given the size of our outfit, we approached via the east side of the lake and had no issues, except for the fact that the campsite is not signed until you are literally on top of the turning. When we left, we opted to route via Sondrio & Tirano and crossed Switzerland via the Bernina and Fluella passes – highly recommend for stunning scenery.

What a gem!

We absolutely loved this site. It's in a beautiful setting right next to the water but, surrounded by mountains. So peaceful. Facilities are fine and staff are very friendly. Can't wait to go back.

Great site

Fantastic site in a stunning location. Would highly recommend. Don't believe your sat nav as it tries to avoid sending you along the west side of the lake, it is easily passable and we were towing a 7 metre caravan.

Excellent site

Stayed here for 12 nights. Staff all very helpful. Good sized and well maintained pitches. Toilets etc are excellent. Lovely location. Right by the side of the lake. One of the few places that I could honestly say I would love to come back to.
