We loved it - and just 40 minutes from St Malo ferry

We returned from Camping Le Châtelet last week having revisited this lovely site after a 20 plus year break when we were there a couple of times previously with our (then) 3 young sons. Having read the quite mixed reviews here before booking we were not too sure it was the right thing to do….. But after a wonderfully peaceful and relaxed 9 days away we would have no hesitation in recommending what we think is a lovely site. We had a fantastic uninterrupted sea view pitch (as requested with the Club who made a direct enquiry with Camping Le Châtelet that our large outfit could be accommodated ok), and we got lovely sunsets most nights (with at least some rain most days – but that’s Brittany for you!) We wonder if some folks are spoiled by the immaculate sites we have in the UK from the Club, with their spotless loos and generous pitches, or perhaps we are just not quite so fussy? We found this time for our mid-June week that the site was clean and was being prepared for the busy period that is no doubt due in a few weeks. Our earlier visits were both made during UK school holiday periods in the 1990’s, so things were very much quieter this time around at probably 1/3rd capacity. Both then and now, we found the staff were helpful, friendly and charming, and when there this time, hedgerows and grassed areas were being nicely trimmed in preparation for the summer break. We thought the loos were fine, although we did hear some groans about the cool temperature of the showers from others….and yes, they are multi sex, but this is France - you do get a privacy door to each cubicle!! – Most of us have our own loo and shower in the caravan these days anyway don’t we, and the hook up electric supply to our van was from a UK standard connection with correct polarity (I checked), and no trip outs all week. Some pitches did need longer cables than the standard 25 metre ones most of us use. An efficient move by the site management (under the guise of being eco minded they say) is that all bins and recycling is done at the site entrance, so there are no bins on site to spoil the pitch areas. This is no big deal at all if you just plan to drop rubbish to the wheelie bins on your way out, and keep re-cycling separated ready for the containers in the same location. We consider that the pitches (by French standards) are quite generous, and more than adequate for our large outfit (large 4x4, 7.50M overall length caravan, an awning and BBQ with wind break), although our motor mover made things easier with wanting a sea view from the front of the ’van. We have no hesitation in recommending this site, but do remember that this is not a CC UK site; you are a guest in France, so enjoy the difference. Bon voyage.
