Beautiful tranquil site.

Benodet is absolutely beautiful and the site is perfectly located for getting around. We must also highly recommended 'Les Benedets'., a cafe at the end of the road overlooking the sea delicious coffee, cakes and brunch. A day trip across the bay by ferry €2 is also highly recommended to a pretty almost Cornish village. The lower rating for the showers toilets was only due to no toilet paper but they were alway clean. And the low rating for the facilities was because it had a very basic bar and shop. We absolutely loved our stay we even added on two xtra nights. The pitch size was perfect for our camper van , awning and a seating area but I can see if you had a car as well as a caravan and awning it might not be big enough however there was lots of xtra parking on site. A wonderful relaxing site but don't go expecting a glamorous reception area and an infinity pool it's a French campsite.

Paid for 8 nights, managed to stay for three - but wrote off over £100 in booking costs

We wrote off over a hundred pounds paid in advance here in leaving when we had paid in full for 5 days more than we used. If you listen to nothing else in this review, please listen to that, as it is something I can ill afford. My only regret is that we didn't leave a day sooner when we had given the site every chance. I don't believe this site should be on the CAMC books, to be honest. Maybe once, but my impression is that the owners have lost interest and have taken their wyes off the ball. That's benefit of the doubt. We arrived and felt in the way: no info about the basics (even where to find EHU... along the next pitch, out of site behind their van). No info about facilities, toilet location, activities, pool opening hours, map of the site.... Walk into the bar with just the barman there (one of the brothers owning the site, we think... based on resemblance)... not a word in French or English on any occasion even though no-one else was there. No info about where the toilets were (or any other facilities for that matter). There was no toilet paper (or holders... i.e. they never provide it) and no soap (ditto), no plugs in the washing facilities (again). The toilets were dirty on every visit. No excuse. If this were my only experience of CAMC overseas bookings I would never book with them again. Happily, overall, the CAMC booking staff were great and the two other CAMC recommended sites we used were superb. Will definitely book with CAMC again, but not here.

Lovely location and pools but beware!

As a family of four we stayed here for 13 nights 12th-25th August 2018. The location of the site in proximity to the beach and local amenities is ideal and the pools, steam room and sauna facilities available on site are great but beware...……………... Upon arrival there was a friendly welcome at reception which was a positive start. We were then advised to follow the warden on his bicycle to our pitch. We were led up a very narrow lane and directed into a line of pitches (mainly tents) where the turning angle off the narrow lane was impossible to get around with our 4 berth caravan due to the tightness of the turn and the first pitch on the same corner in the line having it's car parked on the edge of their pitch so they could fit their tent on. As a result the off-side wheel arch of our caravan became entrapped in a hedge and ended up cracking the arch and damaging the front retaining screw-hold to a point where it was hanging off (meaning we had to fix this with superglue and silicon during our stay), the warden heard the sound of the cracking plastic and was fully aware of our issue but continued to ride on to point out our pitch number before returning to say please use you motor mover to get out of the position. It was clear that we had been assigned a pitch area only suitable for small 2 berth caravans, tents, and small motorhomes due to the size of the pitches in this area of the site. We spoke to another camper pitched up with a folding camper who advised that they were led into the line of pitches via the wider lane at the bottom of the line of pitches which would have been a far more suitable route for us to take and would have posed no risk of damage, they also advised that they had booked and paid for a service pitch but had not got one. The pitch was on a very steep hill which took a bit of adjusting of the caravan position to ensure we had a level caravan and also suitability to put up our awning which meant the electric hook-up was only just reachable to us as the nearest one was over 2 pitches away from us. As we looked around the site we noticed that all other 4 berth and larger caravans were located on the opposite site of the site to us which had much more accessible routes to pitches and larger pitch areas. Once we forgot about the initial issue we had encountered we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the site and in the local and surrounding areas, Quimper and Concarneau were particularly good to visit and Plage de la torch about 20km away is a must for body boarding and surfing.

Lovely Location

This was the very first site we ever went to in France 28 years ago. It's not that we disliked the site or the area. It was more the case of wanting to go further south with the expectation of better weather. Our stay was only for 3 nights, just to remind ourselves what this part of Brittany was like. Although it rained for most of our stay we won't leave it so long to go back to this part of France. The site itself is, as to be expected, different in some areas but very much the same in others. The entrance to the site is about 200 metres from the sea front and access to the site is easy. However, access in and out of a lot of the pitches isn't. The majority of the pitches are not very large and with the fully grown hedges between manoeuvring can be quite testing, especially as many are on a slope. Our 'van is a single axle and an average size but we had to use the motor mover to get it in to place. We also had to unhook the van, use the mover to exit the group of pitches and re-couple the 'van back up to leave. Large areas of the site were probably laid out originally when the average caravan was 12 feet and pulled by a Cortina. The staff were pleasant and the guy in reception, Stefan, was very helpful. The facilities were average to good but could do with a facelift. Our electric kept tripping although there was very little and sometimes nothing at all on to take any power. It could have been as a result of the rain as none of the installations looked particularly weatherproof. After we'd used all 4 plugs on the post, Stefan had checked our 'van and had reset them a few times, he eventually left the unit unlocked for us to reset the trip switches. French Health and Safety at its best. The area has some beautiful sandy beaches and Benodet itself is a lovely seaside town, not particularly commercialised and a walk around the estuary side is delightful.

July 2017

We have just returned from our second stay here and once again had a fabulous holiday. The site is a great base to explore the areas around Benodet. We visited Concarneau, Quimper, St Marine to name but a few. There are plenty of beautiful beaches where you can swim, snorkel, body board or just relax. The site is well maintained and so clean. There is an older toilet and shower block with plenty of facilities and all clean. Then a more modern block with fewer shower and toilets. You need to take toilet roll though. There is an on site little shop that sells fabulous croissants, baguettes and pain au chocolat. it opens twice a day. You can pre order your pastries the night before too. The pitches are a good size bit tricky to reverse into unless you are an expert especially if there a lot of campers there already which reduces the space to turn. But we managed it and people soon move when you head there way! From a personal point of view they are close in proximity across from each other. When we arrived very tired after 6 hour drive I felt it was like being in a goldfish bowl. This is because people seem to prefer to set their vans facing outwards and therefore sit looking across from each other. However we turned ours to the side and once awning was on it did feel a bit less open. Some of the hedges are not fully grown so this will help too when they are. The site is so well looked after and so clean. The pools and slides are great too. There is no shade around the pool though so just to be aware. It was never too busy while we were there too so made it really pleasant. The children loved it. There is a new medical centre in Benodet which we used when our little boy was poorly. The doctor was great and with his pretty good English and my not so good French we made ourselves understood and our little boy received excellent treatment. There is a little bar on sight we didn't frequent too often not a lot going on there and has no cocktails! AAGH!!! Still just a walk along the promenade and we soon found restaurants and bars that made fabulous Mojitos! There is no restaurant on sight but there is a little café bar that sells more chips and sausage, omelette type meals. We thought it a bit pricey too. We found it better this year for mixing with other nationals than British too as last year the British caravan and motorhome people were all put together, this was a bit disappointing especially when going abroad we like to meet all sorts of people from different countries. So that was a plus this year for sure. Overall this site has lots to offer and great for families and couples alike. Overall this is a great site and

Excellent Site

This is a great site, the owner was very helpful and friendly. we stayed in september so the shop/bar was not open. that said, Mathis, the owner, would pop along and serve you if you requested. the pools were great and the site was very clean. the indoor pool was great for overcast days. the shower block was clean and tidy. its an easy 5 min walk into benodet, however there are only a handful of restaurants etc. i would recommend this site for anyone, well worth a visit. if you like visiting other places, its well situated for day trips etc.

Great site but not much going on in Benodet

Stayed for four nights in July after booking through Caravan Club. Site is easy to find and offers apple space to pull in upon arrival when checking in. The owners are very friendly and show you to your pitch. Site has mixture of chalets and camping pitches with two toilet blocks, swimming pools and children play area, bar, snack bar and site shop. The children's play area is ideal for toddlers (swings, bouncy castle etc). Outside the site, there's a beautiful sandy beach just 10mins stroll along with a nice promenade. Supermarket is 10mins cycle ride or 5mins in a car. There's a small harbour and a scattering of restaurants with the odd shop. We was hoping for more going off in resort. Back to the site, it's well kept and well run and nothing was too much trouble. The site went quiet around 10pm with the only noise coming from a larger site nearby who offered entertainment. As much as we liked it here, Benodet didn't offer much by way of shopping and entertainment, so glad we tried it but will try somewhere new next time.

Best in Brittany!

This site is owned and run by the Le Breton family for families. Their attention to detail and care for those who stay on the site sets the standards by which other sites should be judged. The facilities are very good and very well maintained, the two swimming pools, one indoor and the other outdoor together with the two slides are as good as it gets. Pitches are of a good size, some offer shade and others sun. Ask if you have a preference. There is bar, snack bar and small shop where baguettes, croissants and pain au chocolate can be ordered. The site is only a short walk from Benodets beaches and restaurants and an ideal centre for exploring Brittany. If you haven't been before you're missing a lot and if you enjoy seafood Brittany is exceptional. It shouldn't come as surprise that this site is popular with people of all nationalities but particularly the French and British many of whom return year after year. That says much about the site but as much about the Le Breton family who really do want you to enjoy your stay there. Book early or you may be disappointed.

August 2017

We visited with 3 young kids (2, 6 and 8 years old. Indoor pool was great if a bit breezy outdoors and outdoor pool with slides was not too busy and kept older kids happy. New shower block was clean and tidy. Small shop sold bread and fresh milk daily. There was a bar bug we didn't find it until he last night! So no problems with noise. Great sandy beach 5 mins walk away. We're thinking of going again next year.
