Excellent Christmas 2018

We traveled from Scotland to spend Christmas and New Year in warmer climes. This was our most southerly stop and was the one which spanned the Christmas period so it was doubly important to us that we had picked a good site and this one didn’t disappoint. Only negative is that it’s a bit far out from the town and a half hour walk even to the nearest supermarket although there is a small one on site that covers the basics. Plenty positives though. A twenty minute walk takes you to a dog friendly beach and there is a cycle route into town. The indoor heated pool was a lovely bonus and the on site restaurant was fine. The paella was fresh made and very tasty. The pitches are a decent size and ours had a water point which was very handy. Most of the pitches are taken up by long termers here for the winter so booking is important for those wanting to spend a few days. Overall a big success and a site we will definitely return too.

Good out of season site - not easy to walk to town.

Why: The area looked interesting and the site seemed to have good facilities and good reviews. Location: On the Northern outskirts of the town of Guardamar del Segura. The town is not too commercialised. There are one or two shops selling tourist souvenirs and a big weekly market but is basically a Spanish seaside town with quite a few apartments which seem to be occupied by the British during the winter. Check in – We tried to book online but could not get the period we wanted so I telephoned. It turned out that the two-week period we wanted to stay straddled 2 Spanish public holidays and a lot of Spanish had booked pitches. With a little bit of compromise, we eventually booked in for 12 nights. When we did arrive, we were offered a choice of pitches. When we were there a lot of Brits were digging in for the Winter. There as a good mix of nationalities including Dutch, German and Scandinavians. Pitches – are of varying sizes but on the whole quite large for Spain. We easily accommodated our 7.5m caravan, awning and car. The surface is compacted clay and many people had aid down the mesh groundsheets. Most pitches have shade provided mostly by conifers. All pitches have electricity, water, grey water drainage point and a TV connection. We were able to watch BBC1, BBC2, ITV1 and ITV2. There are a lot of bungalows on site but they are modern and very well maintained. Facilities • Three shower blocks, although slightly dated they were clean. • Very nice pool area with lots of loungers and various children’s features inc small slides and tipping buckets. • Bar and restaurant. We did not use the restaurant but did have one meal in the bar which was not great. My Pizza looked and tasted like a cheap frozen pizza and my wife’s barbecued ribs were so tough she gave up and just ate the chips. The wine was very good and very cheap. • There is a shop on site selling a good range of items at reasonable prices. • Multigym with a good range of dated kit including running machines and cycles. • The site is not on the beach but you can walk or drive across the dunes – beware it is a very bumpy road. There are no facilities on the beach but it is very pretty. We drove to the beach in Guardamar itself which we thought was excellent. In addition to beach chairs for hire there was also a range of restaurants and cafes nearby. Pros • Very well run and maintained site. • Huge weekly market, bars and restaurants in Guardamar. • Large Mercadona and Asian Bazaar nearby. Although not far away I would not recommend walking to them along the busy road with no footpath. Cons • To be sure of a pitch you need to book ahead. • Some traffic noise from the N332 which is busy day and night. Would we use again – yes. Nice laid-back site near Guardamar and its lovely beach. Though we would book ahead next time.

Definitely not a 5*

We stayed at this site for 3 weeks in May 2017 and on arrival were impressed however after one weeks stay we were then inundated with mosquitos making it impossible to sit outside. Several other campers including ourselves complained many times to reception and each time were promised something would be done. We contacted The Caravan Club who then contacted the site and again were promised that this problem would be addressed. Nothing whatsoever was done as promised. Overall very disappointed with this site, location is dreadful, mosquito problem ruined our stay. The cleanliness was fairly good apart from the large amount of bird droppings in the sun beds around the pool (only place which didn't seem to have mosquitos) We will not re visit this site.

Nice site spoiled by location

Stayed 2 weeks in October. Site was almost full with Brits and other northern Europeans set up for a long winter stay. It was amazing to see fully covered pitches complete with awnings, gazebos, kitchen tents and all the comforts of home such as domestic size fridge/freezers, washing machines, tumble dryers and garden plants in pots - a cc site warden would have needed medical attention! The site location is very poor being surrounded by unkempt scrub land. The walk to the beach is down a path that follows a stinking rubbish-strewn water drainage channel - not very pleasant. In addition the nearest bus stop is almost 1km from the site - not good for motorhomers who like to use public transport rather than uproot every time they want to go out. Another problem we had was the indoor pool - it is normally closed in the afternoon for the siesta (not customer friendly) but also during our stay it was closed for 4 days for maintenance. In addition when it did open at 5 pm it was impossible to use because of swimming lessons being given to local children - basically it could only be used in the mornings. There is a small supermarket on site but it is not really good enough for anything other than essentials. There is a good supermarket about 1 km away. Overall a good site spoilt by location, inadequate supermarket and poor access to the pool.

Lovely site

We stayed 6 nights end of April.  Quiet during week but whilst we were there the Spanish arrived at the weekend to set up their summer residences - a remarkable feat of ingenuity and invention as everything went into their awnings including plumbed in kitchen sinks and although hanging washing between trees is not allowed it would appear hanging full plot sized green shading is allowed as all the Spanish do it...  The site is exceptionally well maintained with large plots.  Showers and toilets are very good.  Great swimming pools (indoor & out), Gym, Kids play area, large restuarant, etc.  Beach is a long walk down a dusty track (about 2km).  Local town Guadamar de Segora has lots of bars/restaurants on a wide promonade and the town has an enormous market Wednesday.  A lot of people use this site for long stay overwintering and we would certainly use this site again

Nice site

Very good site for facilities pool tennis court bar. very clean toilet/showers/ laundry blocks reception staff a little blunt but maintainance staff very very helpful and friendly. If missing British TV you can plug in to their aerial you will need a digital cable. Cycling from the camp on tracks to near by supermarket. Market day on a Saturday. Cycle right out the camp turn right at the canal then when you see a ramp down across the canal cycle there into Guardamar nice little bars and places to eat.  The area is ok but now we have been there probably will not return.
