Not motorhome friendly

What can I say about this place…… ! We chose this place as it said it had a shuttle bus to the surf beach ( in a motorhome so no other form of transport)also it had electric bikes to hire ( in a motorhome so no other no other form of transport), needed WiFi to plan and explore local area or book a restaurant online. No shuttle bus or surf school, electric bike always broken or owners son taken them and not returned!! Couldn’t pre book for another day either. WiFi was €2 for 2hrs and very poor signal, no mobile dated either due to no service! Staff were quite rude. Shop poorly stocked and shut from 12-5pm, Restaurant on site had nice food but very bad service and attitude. Asked about car hire was told ‘not possible’ but after paying for WiFi I quite quickly managed to call europcar in Concarneau myself however I had to collect and return to Concarneau as no drop off service. There is no cafe, restaurants or shops within walking distance. Kids enjoyed the pool and trampolines but no obvious entertainment for children other than mass football! This is not a motorhome friendly site.

Comment from the Club:

We were concerned to read your review of Camping Le Raguenes Plage, particularly as this has always proved a very popular choice. We have discussed the points raised in the review with the campsite owner and would like to clarify a number of the issues.
There is a surf school at Dourveil Plage, around 400m from the site. However, this activity is very dependent on suitable sea conditions and, unfortunately, conditions were not suitable for a part of the high season, resulting in the cancellation of this activity. There is a shuttle bus from the campsite to the surf school, but only when the activity is taking place. The campsite manager is very insistent that all 'animation' is for all campsite users and there has never been an occasion when any nationality is excluded. Some events are predominantly in French (although many are also in English) but every effort is made to provide activities likely to appeal to all guests. The campsite has a number of electric bikes for hire, as well as traditional bikes. Electric bikes are very popular and frequently booked out in peak season although every effort is made to share the bikes fairly amongst interested guests. There are plans to increase the number of electric bikes.
There is a bus service from Raguenes to Concarneau in the high season suitable for anyone not wishing to use their own vehicle, although the buses are infrequent so car hire may therefore be an alternative. The campsite recommends a local firm who are happy to deliver cars to the site. Staff at the car hire company speak fluent English.
The new campsite shop is open every morning and late afternoon, but not throughout the day (in common with many other campsites) and is well stocked with all 'essentials'
The campsite is located in the hamlet of Raguenes and is around 4km from the nearest town, Nevez (where there is a good range of shops, restaurants etc). We therefore consider that this site may not be suitable for some motorhomers, unless they have independent transport (eg bicycles) and therefore do not flag the site as being 'motorhome friendly' in our brochure or on our website

Great location facilities looking tired

Stayed 4 nights Aug 2017. Great location, staff very efficient, pool good for families but the facilities are now looking very tired particularly toilet block which have not changed since last visit approx 10 years ago. There is only one non disabled toilet in the shower block the rest being on the other side outside of the block which is why there was a sign stating "please do not use these showers as a toilet!' Ate a meal in the restaurant which which was very poor quality & value compared to other campsites. Manoeuvring anything but the smallest unit is difficult with tight corners & turns with shrubs and bushes on corners which scratch your unit. It's a lovely place but just needs to make essential improvements

Very good but....

Stayed for 10 nights at the start of August 2017. The facilities are cleaned daily and maintained to a very good standard. The site is very close (5 mins walk on private path) to the beach which is a fantastic sandy long beach with plenty of room for everyone. Further around the bay in both directions are further smaller beaches all accessable by the coast path. The site has a good swimming pool area which gets very busy and very noisy. There is a small shop with basic provisions, a small bar, a takeaway serving pizza, frittes, cooked chickens and lasagne and around the bar/pool area was a range of kids play equipment. The vast majority of the staff speak good English and everyone we spoke to was very helpful and polite. There was something arranged most evenings while we were there but it all appears to be held outdoors by the bar. These events often go on till midnight and were very loud and could be heard right across the site. The Karaoke events being by far the worse with nowhere to escape from the din! There are no shops or restaurants within wasy walking distance, we walked to both the northern and southern next villages along the coast paths to eat out. The northern route is roughly a six mile round trip on fairly good paths but we found no shops, whereas the southern route is more like eight miles and the coastal path is hard going and not suitable for young or anyone struggling with mobility but there was a small supermarket. A supermarket and fuel was also available from Nevez, a town a couple of miles away in-land. As already mentioned, there are some narrow access roadways on the site but the pitches are of a good size and well shaded although there were a large number of wasps around the weaping willows which the site were trying to manage by hanging wasp traps in the trees. As with most of France, dont expect the dog mess to be picked up so be careful where you put your feet when you walk around the site! Nice enough place but as we have a motorhome (so no car on holiday), the lack of shops and restaurants within the local area and the noise late into the evenings means we wouldn't return.

Well worth a visit

We only stayed here for one night as we were getting the Roscoff ferry back to Plymouth the next day. On the way to the site we passed some very pretty towns i.e Pont Aven and Nevez which we would definitely like to visit in the future. We arrived to a friendly welcome by the staff and found a pitch of our choosing. After setting up, we walked to the beach, the sea was too rough for swimming on that particular day but there is a coastal path so we walked part of that instead. The on site swimming pools were very nicely kept and were not at all busy (2nd week in September). We definitely would like to come here again and book enough night so that we have time to explore the pretty places that are close by and are very definitely well worth a visit.

Lovely site but BEWARE large outfits

Was unexpectedly in this area for 1 extra night (kids travelled much better than expected!). Have a long van (over 8m) and so used CC to find site as didn't want to run into problems with pitch size / getting around site. However - nightmare checking in (narrow road, not very clearly marked where to go, so you end up blocking entrance of campsite). They continually tried to get us to park round a tight roundabout to free up said road, and wouldn't listen when we said we were too long. Forced us to do so and my poor husband had to do a 20 point jiggery pokery with everyone from Reception, the shop and the café watching to get us out! My advice - if you're long and think you cant get round, stick to your guns! Lovely pool and location, loads to do in the area, nice pitch once on it! Tricky leaving too as many corners have trees and well established bushes - damaged side of the van on way out. IN SHORT - lovely site for smaller outfits and those who don't get stressed and bothered when towing in a tight space!

Great place to stay

We had a lovely stay at Raguenes Plages. This was our first trip to France in the caravan. The site is 2 and a quarter hours drive from Roscoff. We enjoyed the location just a few hundred metres from the sea, a short drive or bicycle ride into the tidy village of Nevez for provisions and the site itself offers good facilities for campers and caravanners as well as three swimming pools, one of which is heated. We had 26C sunny days in August and had a fabulous time travelling around the local area.

Excellent site, delightful region

This is a large site but it is well divided with bushes and trees and does not feel crowded. The sandy beach is 10 minutes walk away. Dogs are not allowed on the beach but there are lovely walks along the path at the top of the beach. There is a very pleasant coastline to explore by car and Concarneau is worth a visit. Pont Aven is very touristy but also worth a visit. The local village of Nevez allows you a taste of French country life and is especially worth a visit on market day.

Annual holiday

Great place to stay, Site very quiet. Toilets and showers very clean. 15 minutes walk to a sandy beach with fantastic views. Swimming pools very good, indoor one very warm.Staff friendly and helpful although no one to supervise that pool rules were being obeyed e.g ball games and inflatables in the pool. Short drive to Nevez which is a beautiful little town with good shops selling everything you need plus a very good supermarket. Need transport to get there which is the only problem if you have a motorhome, or be prepared to up sticks and go. Would recommend this site to families and oldies like me.
