A quiet and peaceful site

Ribamar is a really lovely site in the Sierra d’Irta natural park. The only negative thing I have to say about it is the access road through the park - because it’s a natural park it’s a mile of bumpy unmade road complete with ruts and potholes. The site itself however is an oasis of calm and is very pretty. The main site road has flower beds and palm trees; the pitches are surrounded by trees but they are deciduous so in February we had plenty of sun. The pitches are a decent size and separated by hedges. The whole site is beautifully kept and the toilet blocks are very clean with good hot showers. It’s very peaceful - the only sound was that of the sea. A gate leads from the back of the site through the trees to the sea - rocky outlets with little coves for swimming (but not for us in February!) You can walk along the coast path into Alcossebre (about a mile through the park to the lighthouse, then a further mile along the promenade) and there are many other walks and bike trails in the park. You can hire bikes at the site. There’s not a lot else to do except just chill out. The bar/restaurant is open all day with a lovely terrace overlooking the pool; you can order bread etc there and there is a very small shop stocked with essentials. The Consum supermarket in town is good. This site is excellent for peace and quiet and is ideal for those who like to make their own entertainment.

mixed experience

This is a review of two halves. The site itself is really nice and its well laid out with nice modern and clean facilities. It right by the seashore which is an easy walk. Theres a great pool, a little restaurant but it was ropey, my wife described the service as "indifferent". The menu was limited and some options weren't available. The real downside to this site is the road in and the paths that allow you to walk into Alcossbre. All you could say about the road is that its unacceptable. Once on site, we weren't prepared to take the 'van off again until we left as its so rough that you risk damaging your pride and joy. Whilst there are walking paths to Alcossbre, they are rough in large part and unfit for cycling unless you want the full pro mountain bike experience i.e. bigs stones, rocks, holes, the lot. Our pitch was low down on the site and the septic tank for the site wasn't far away. The special effect of this is rather a lot of flies which along with the mozzies limits sitting out on your pitch. So if the flies were sorted, the restaurant was better and the road fixed, then we'd consider going back. Until then, there are better options.

Beautiful location

We went to this site in the middle of August - it is quiet an isolated but you can walk in to the local town along the coastal path (but it is rugged in places) - you will get to the lighthouse and then be able to pick up a beautiful path right to the town. We were expecting a shuttle bus from the site but this is apparently only available in low season. As we were in a motor home this was originally a draw but it took nothing away from our holiday. Walking around the town we actually found decent parking on the outskirts where the holiday apartments are (next to some rough ground where the road was extremely wide and no restrictions). The town is beautiful and we ate at a very decent fish restaurant right on the edge of the beach. The town has a mini supermarket and a lovely vintage shop - cycling routes all good. The site itself has access to the very rocky coast - this can be rough in places but we walked along the path until we were happy with our spots. I like to snorkel and this was fabulous - you will need footwear for going in to the sea. The site itself has an absolutely lovely pool area with plenty of seating and the restaurant overlooks the pool if you want to get something to eat. There is a small room in the Restaurant that sells some provisions but no fresh food. A local farmer does come to the site once a week to sell his organic produce. All lovely, fresh and very tasty. A good site to relax on. We would be happy to return. Very enjoyable.

Perfect location

Wonderful site with large pitches of stone chips and good hedges and nice modern clean toilet block. The sea is a pleasant 5 minute walk through a pine wood with wild rosemary growing everywhere. Unfortunately the bar and restaurant are currently closed for renovation but when open again this site is faultless. The wide bumpy access road presents no problem for Motorhomes or Caravans and you will get a very warm welcome on arrival. Supermarket, bars and restaurants a 10 minute bumpy bike ride away.

Fabulous

We travelled in Spain from Oct 17 until March 18 and used the CC Winter Escapes as a basis of our choices, it was extremely helpful. The star of the tour has to be Ribamar, from the first moment of the friendly welcome from the charming receptionist to the immaculate standards of the facilities and pitch maintenance, it is a joy. We loved the area, Alcossebre is a lovely town with decent shops and restaurants and the walking both on the coast and in land is excellent, our dog adored it. Don’t be put off by the unmade road, it’s fine really. We would highly recommend this site if you like peace, quite and privacy.

Very Good Site

Nice site, good size pitches, decent facilities peaceful and very pleaseant staff.  Shuttle bus on a Monday and Friday are a godsend to motorhome owners.  Don't let the unadopted road to the site put you off as the location is excellent.

Winter sun

Better than expected. Lovely site, friendly owners. We had great weather as well. Pity the restaurant wasn't open and no classes at this time of year. Will be going again next year. We don' t have a dog but could be an issue with the caterpillar season? Location very good if you like walking which we do.

A haven of peace and quiet, but ...

We stayed here for a week in January with a dog.  The previous review sums things up perfectly;  we had a very peaceful stay but, without a car, we felt rather cut off as the dusty track wasn't easy for bike riding and the coastal path needed hiking boots for the 2 mile walk to Alcossembre.

One word of warning February to April is Processionary Caterpillar season - see http://www.abacoadvisers.com/spain_explained/life-spain/news/processionary-caterpillars-spain.  These little blighters are a considerable risk to dogs as well as to humans and we would not recommend bringing a dog to the site when the caterpillars are on the move.

Despite the remoteness, we enjoyed our stay and the friendly welcome from the owners, but would probably not return.
