Decent site, Beware of Dog, Rude Owner

This site is in the lovely village of Bruck.  Train station in village which we took to the city of Salzburg.  There's plenty to see and do and the facilities are great for the family, particularly the lake.  Small outdoor pool. Site always full and felt overrun but we did stay in July.  Pitch sizes are OK but the brochure states up to 100sq m and I think that the appropriate part is 'up to'.  Some out of date food in the shop so be careful with dates.   Our experience was spoilt though by a bad experience with the campsite owner's dog, a very large German Shepherd which roams around the reception and is not kept on a lead.  We were standing outside reception with our own dog who was on his lead (a small Bichon Frise) when the dog run straight from reception and launched an attack trying to bite and scratch.  It was only stopped by my wife and I knocking the dog off.  It was a really terrifying experience for my 3 young kids as well as the dog.  I was asked to speak to the owner later that evening which I duly did.  He was unapologetic, extremely rude and was not accepting of my assertion that the dog should be kept on a lead.  As a dog lover myself I was merely concerned for safety. My point to him was that it could have caused some serious damage and who is to say that with so many young children around it may not turn on one of them never mind any other dogs.  I also suggested that if my dog was not on a lead and the attack was the other way round we would have been asked to leave the site.  With a shrug of the shoulders he said he would not be putting the dog on the lead and nothing would change. Unbelievable!

Thank you very much for taking the time to leave a review, we always appreciate feedback from our members. We contacted the campsite about your concerns and they would like to pass on the following message Thank you very much for your reply and the comments to the campsite the surrondings and about myself. I'm glad you liked the surroundings and did enjoy the facilities from the campsite. Concerning the bad experience from the campsite dog I really want to apologize if you had the feeling that I reacted regarding our conversation at the reception. Myself didn't see what was going on. The only thing I can say again is that our nine year old dog has been on the campsite since she was apppy and is very sed too the dogs and having always lots of children around her. I did mention to you is that whenever had any bad experience at all. The dog is really a family dog and is loved especially by the children from the camping and hotel guests. I can honestly say we do have some families returning to our resort becase they love the campsite dog and many times lots of children are hanging around with the dog or lying almost on the dog. If we would have a problem with the dog we certainly couldn't keep our dog on the campsite. Once again I truly want to apologize for the bad experience you had on our site and I do hope you give us a chance again to be your host when you visit Austria again.

Kind regards, Wolfgang Hofer
