A Day Trip from Merrose Farm Club Site

Starting from the site on the Roseland in Cornwall we headed for a first stop and coffee in St Mawes. There is a large car park in the village and out of the main season this is fairly easy to use. We enjoyed a stroll around the sea front and a coffee on the terrace of our favourite hotel, the Idle Rocks. From the harbour there are regular ferries to Falmouth and Pill Creek (for walks to St Anthony's Head.) In the past we've also done boat trips from here, up the Fal and over the bay to the Helford River and Frenchman's Creek.

In St Mawes there are plenty of small shops and places to stop for food and a drink. There is a pleasant walk up to the castle overlooking Falmouth Bay and a hidden gem worth seeing is the sub tropical garden at Lamorran House.

Leaving St Mawes we tracked back to St Just in Roseland, another place for a detour, where there is a beautiful creekside church and walks leading back to the coast. However we headed for the King Harry Ferry, a return for us cost £7.50 using the club site voucher. On leaving the ferry, NT Trelissick Gardens are just ahead on the left, another lovely place to visit and wander around. But going onward towards Falmouth a short stop at Come to Good will reveal an ancient barn like church built by local Quaker families, worth a look if time allows.

Following the Falmouth route we looked out for the gardens signs to Trebah and Glendurgan via Mawnan Smith. These gardens are next to each other and both lead down to the Helford River. We prefer Trebah as it's dog friendly and the beach at the end of the garden is private and secluded. These are probably our favourite gardens in Cornwall, we've been visiting for years and they never fail to impress. This Spring they are as usual, full of colour and interest, they always soothe our souls.
