Hendra Holiday park

This story happened on: 18/03/2012

We have been in Holidaying in cornwall for a few years now we enjoy all the surrounding areas so to cut down on driving we decided to book into a established holiday resort with my brother and sister in law with them in a tent and us in our van.

we decided to spend a little more money on having facility's on site incase the British weather decided to spoil the fun which was the mail reason we were not booked into a CC site.

The pitch was a good size grassed pitch with a slight slope for drainage,no issues with power tripping out either, but the trouble started when we went to the portacabin toilet blocks!!!! on a 5 star site?

i was disgusted they were cold always wet and never any hot water even when i tried showering at 6 am,the cleaners were always there but to busy to clean because they were  busy shouting in eastern european to each other all morning.

Lucky with my van Elddis Avante 564 has a nice end washroom with full shower so all the kids could get a hot shower every morning/night if needed but this meant lots of trips to the waste and water because they don't have fully services sites which i thought was odd for a 5 star site?

The water supply point and waste point was not any better,a tap with no drainage so the area was always wet and muddy and the waste point was a man hole cover you had to remove yourself allowing you and anyone who was walking by to see everyone else's waste coming from the nearby toilet block!!!!

I thought it was maybe just out area because they had just extended the site and ours were temporary but no i was shocked to find all other blocks were the same.

As for the bar/restaurant area nothing much there to write home about either, they have a lot to do to come up to the caravan club standards.

Hillhead in Devon are light years ahead of Hendra.

Other caravaners were saying the same about the site some even packed up and went home early,we tried to rebook another site but with it being in the height of season everywhere is full.

We didn't let it spoil our 2 weeks down there spending all day and most evenings off the site but i wouldn't want any other CC members to waste their hard earned money.

Id love to see a large Caravan Club site like Hillhead to be built in West Cornwall Id be booking in a few times a year and I'm sure others  would do they same.

Hi Craigleslie

Really surprised at how Hendra has appeared to have gone downhill!

We stayed there on many occasions when the children were young the last time being in about 2000. It was always such a great family friendly site with good facilities. I think the problems started when they invested so much in the indoor pool and water slide etc.

I think the CC should consider trying to locate a large site such as Hillhead in the Newquay area but I dont think a suitable piece of land is likely to become available.

Write your comments here...I have posted this on a few chats as well,i was at hillhead last year before i went to hendra and thought it was fantastic,it seems there is to many sites in that area but none are large enough to make it like hillhead.

I have to say it but maybe close one of the sites that not busy and make the other one larger?

Other have said maybe take an existing site over and i think that's what the cc need to do.Id book in to the site for 3-4 weeks throughout the year i think.

My son and his family stayed on Hendra last year for a holiday ,he told me he had to get into a queue at 6 o`clock in the evening if you wanted to get a seat in the club house for the childrens show .If you intended using the swimming pool then you had to purchase vouchers from reception. It turned out to be a very expensive holiday for them.
