The wonderful New Forest

This story happened on: 09/05/2012

Although we had an old Bedford motor-home for many years (which we loved even though it only did 11 miles to the gallon!) we only ever used it for the odd trip to Wales, days out, and camping at local music festivals. In January this year I took voluntary redundancy and early retirement from my job working for a Local Authority. Long ago we decided that when I retired (my other half is 10 years my junior so unfortunately is still working) that we would buy another motor-home.

So my trip to the New Forest site a couple of weeks ago in our new (new to us) Compass Drifter motor-home at Black Knowle was my first real time away. Unfortunately my other half had to work so me and my little Miniature Pinscher dog (Nutmeg) set off on our maiden voyage. We only had three days but we managed to pack loads of wonderful walks through the beautiful heathland and forest that make up the New Forest. The staff on site were really friendly and so I didn’t feel too much of an idiot asking “what do I do “.

I was told by a couple of fellow travellers that the town was only 45 or 50 minutes walk. Unfortunately we (myself and Nutmeg) got a little lost en route so it took us nearer an hour and three quarters! Needless to say we got a taxi back!

It was a thoroughly enjoyable mini-break on a lovely well kept site and so tomorrow we set sail for the Cotswolds for 6 days. I like this motor-homing malarkey!!  :0)

Glad you enjoyed your stay, lovely site isn't it, I can imagine the walk to the village going wrong, lots of different footpaths!
