Second time lucky – Part 1

This story happened on: 29/06/2018

I picked up the van from storage and met Mrs One at the scout hut at 8.15pm on Thursday evening.  I had arranged to stay overnight at the transit area at Hollymount CL Farm by Ross on Wye.  The journey started well, not a lot of traffic so progress was good.  That deteriorated quickly as we approached Newmarket where the gantries advised that the A14 from Newmarket right through to the west of Cambridge was closed. Fortunately I know the area well so was able to divert and pick up the A14 at Huntingdon.  Road closures had finished with us yet as the slip road onto the M42 was also closed and also part of the M50.  We arrived at Hollymount just before 2am.  Had a good night’s sleep and after refuelling at Morrison’s in Ross we were on the Road to Pembrokeshire by 10.30am.

Arrived at Upper Bushford CL at 2.30pm, set up then went to Milford Haven.  We checked out the Petrochem memorial on the river front.  This was erected in memory of the people who lost their lives in the Refinery explosion in 2011.  (see photo).

On Saturday we went to Picton Castle.  This is a nice day out with plenty of activities, walks etc.  The guided tour of the house was excellent.  One of the highlights for us was the secret owl garden.  The day got even better when Lily the baby little owl decided freedom was the only way to go.

Sunday early I got a text to say Mondays Smoker trip had been cancelled.  We drove straight down to see if we could get a boat but they were also cancelled.  Plan B was to go to Dale and walk the Pembroke coastal path passed St Anne’s head to Vomit point.  This is a brilliant walk with some interesting views, building etc.  The geology at St Anne’s head is quite spectacular.

When we arrived back at the CL I made arrangements with Helen the owner to leave the van on site and return home coming back the following weekend.  Left site about 9am Monday and and drove home via the Cotswolds arriving about 3pm.

Probably got the name from the cleft in the rocks spewing up water? As it's such an anglicized area it missed out on a nice welsh name. wink

Thanks Oneputt, will look forward to part two. smile
