Reflections on a year new to caravanning

This story happened on: 13/01/2015

Rewind 12 months and we were living in Nottingham, both working, with daughters in school - all pretty normal! Well a lot can happen in 12 months. It's now early January 2014, a time for reflection as well as looking forward to the coming year.

2014 was the year when we became caravanners. We had never been caravanning before as a family and our introduction was an exciting one; we completed a challenge set by the Caravan Club and Elddis to visit 20 sites in 20 weeks and complete 100 challenges. The result was our own caravan to keep. This challenge triggered a complete change of lifestyle, a radical decision to give up our jobs, sell our house and take our girls out of their schools. This wasn't a decision we took lightly. We value the time spent with the family and the time spent in the outdoors. Life can tick by at such a rate that before you know it you've missed key events. We didn't want to miss out on time with our children. The caravan seems to be the vehicle that provided us with the chance to get out and do more together. Being able to move our home around meant that we were not tied to one area with a limited circumference in which to explore but much much more. The caravan, with its ever changing front window view is literally a step away from the outdoors, where we like to explore. We have two philosophies: "Adventure is out there; you just have to go and find it," and "Life is about doing, not having." We love our simple but rewarding lifestyle in the caravan and are looking forward to many more years to come.
