Great site well positioned for Rutland Water
Rutland Caravan and Camping Site
A lovely well kept site, we had 2 weeks here in November, so it was lovely and quiet. The toilet/shower facilities were fabulous, with underfloor heating and space.
We were well positioned to visit Rutland water and surrounding areas. The Plough pub, a short walk through the back of the site was a real find and we thoroughly enjoyed a bingo and quiz night and the food was FABULOUS... AND it was so dog friendly too.
However, there are a few things that could be improved to make this site even better.
1. We were so excited to see that there was a swimming pool on site and booked here specifically for this. However, the cost was too prohibitive, £16 for half an hour (regardless of how many of you are swimming in your party, so for myself, or my husband it would have cost £32 as we can't leave our dog!!) VERY DISAPPOINTING. Why not offer an off peak fee? Or a sign up sheet so you could join others to reduce cost? We understand that the pool is used by many outside clubs/schools, but surely a 'reduced fee' for club users could have been offered?
2. Allowing you to drive around and select your own pitch - we've never had a pitch allocated to us on a club/affiliated site before. We would not have chosen where we were put, especially being there for 2 weeks. Most sites allow you to select your pitch then let the wardens know. I did question this and was met with a very defensive response, which tells me that this point has been obviously been raised before!
3. Considering the charges for this site, the entrance to the site is VERY poor with some very large pot holes...these really need to be addressed.
