Why stay here ...

Located just north of Reims, this beautifully situated site on the banks of the Aisne river provides a convenient stopover point to or from the ports. It’s attractively landscaped with large, level grass pitches, which are set below the main amenities. The well kept facilities include swimming and paddling pools, a trampoline and swings, and the friendly staff are keen to help. You can order fresh bread and pastries for the following day at reception.

The site is well-placed for discovering the region’s attractions. Guignicourt is within walking distance and historic Reims is a short drive away, where you can visit various Champagne cellars, its immense Gothic cathedral and Roman remains. Laon and the Chemin des Dames and Caverne du Dragon are also close by and are a must-see for those interested in World War I.

Overnight Stop

Au Bord de L'Aisne
We used this site as an overnight stop on our journey down to Annecy. The owners were very welcoming and the "indoor" pool was a welcome sight after a lengthy crossing with Le Shuttle. Pitches were grass and flat making it easy for a quick stop. The only comment I would make is that the surrounding roads are quite narrow and with local cars parked on them it made the exit interesting. The site is down a fairly steep incline off the road, which also means a steep incline up back to the exit.

Pleasant short break

Au Bord de L'Aisne
Have stayed for overnight and short breaks. Pitches are a good size and close to amenities. No toilet paper provided but facilities more than adequate. Friendly and helpful staff, who speak reasonable English, should you need it! Close to the motorway, near a supermarket with fuel.

Site in need of more attention

Au Bord de L'Aisne
No toilet paper and soap, bring your own - not unusual in France but indicative. Little things like all the bins full up, shower sprays dispensing a dribble of water, the site needs more care and attention. Perfectly fine for an overnight stop but no longer. Easy to get to, close to the motorway is a pro.

Very Bad Experience

Au Bord de L'Aisne
We stayed here for two nights in June 23 on our way back to Calais. The campsite is being run on a shoestring - the owner, his wife and one other person. The bins were overflowing, the toilets had no soap or hand dryers, the showerheads were a joke. The pool water looked cloudy and I saw no one in the pool the time we were there. The nearby river was milky and a bit stagnant with lots of flies. The nearby village was run down and had no charm. We had a meal in the campsite restaurant the first night. It is only opened from 7 - 8 so the staff are running around like headless chickens trying to serve the tables. Our plates were thrown at us and the waitress ran away to her next table. We had a problem with my wife's meal and when we tried to speak to the waitress we were initially ignored. When we eventually were able to speak to her she snatched the plate off the table without looking at it and marched away. I followed her and heard the plate being thrown in the kitchen. I told her we did not want a replacement but a few minutes later a replacement arrived. It was just as bad - lettuce that was discoloured, limp and had flies on it; the chicken was overcooked and burnt around the edges. We refused it and I asked for the bill. They wanted to charge for the refused meal and when I politely questioned that I was met by rudeness and aggression from the owner of the site who was also the "chef". He was working in the kitchen dressed in the same scruffy shorts and t-shirt he had been wearing all day - not even an apron. He told me the food was good and was the "French way" demanding I pay or leave the site. After politely stating our case his wife relented and removed the cost of the refused meal. We have never experienced this level of bad treatment anywhere in the world in the last 50 years.

Very pleasant site

Au Bord de L'Aisne
Just returned home after 10 wonderful nights on this site. A warm friendly welcome, good size pitches ( you can choose your own) and we were able to put the awning up on one side and the canopy on the other. The staff work very hard to keep the site looking lovely, including bar, restaurant and pool areas. The small village has a railway station and we used the train twice to travel to Reims and Laon. Both well worth a visit. We used our own facilities so can’t comment on the showers but they were very clean and tidy. Yes you have to take your own toilet paper but once you know that it’s no real hardship. It’s very easy to get to, just 2-3 miles off the A26 so also very useful as a stop over site. We would definitely return if passing that way.
