best site!

Grubhof
Exceptional site with great facilities. Stayed on the less formal camping area down by the river for 4 nights in June 2022 - had plenty room and easy access to electricity. Toilets and all facilities were modern, clean and in excellent condition. Beautiful setting - situated between two lovely villages with restaurants and a selection of supermarkets. Great restaurant on site. Lots of walking in the area - would recommend taking the chairlift in Lofer (Almbahn) up to the skiing area - lots of walking paths at the top and restaurants up there and good paths down or up to Lofer if you are feeling in need of more exercise. Bus to Salzburg just outside site. Dog allowed on certain pitches and good to cool off in the river - also a dog shower at site.

WOW! Superb Site

Grubhof
Having read the reviews prior to booking, well it has certainly lived up to expectations. Very warm welcome from reception and the booking process was so easy. Be aware that you must pay extra for dogs which was 3 euros each, plus green tax plus tourist tax. Huge fully serviced pitch which you are obliged to set up in a certain way, ably advised by the pitch master. As has been said, the site is segregated into areas allowing dogs or not etc. We had dinner on our first night and the food was delicious and again, we were made very welcome with our 2 dogs. Lovely river walk and watching the white water canoeing is really amazing. Reception has lots of information regarding local area. Sanitary facilities are absolutely brilliant with showers like small wet rooms and plenty of toilets for everyone. Looking forward to exploring further during our stay.

Excellent site

Grubhof
This is one of the best sites we have visited. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The pitches are a good size and are fully serviced. The site is divided into areas for people with dogs, families or couples. Other sites should follow this layout. The new sanitary facilities are exceptional and the large family bathrooms are luxury with a stunning view of the mountains while you shower. Good access for cycling routes direct from the site. Easy walking distance to Lofer or St Martin. The Saalachter card gives you free use of the cable cars in Lofer, the swimming pool in Lofer and the gorges. Even when the site is busy it is still very quiet and relaxing. Definitely a 5 star camping experience.

Probably One of the Best Sites in Europe

Grubhof

I had seen many positive reviews for this site and it did not disappoint on any level. Approaching from Zell am See the entrance is well signposted on the right just on the outskirts of Lofer. Stop before the barrier and check in at reception where the staff speak excellent English. They also provide you with lots of local information. We were given a site plan and allowed to select a pitch from a choice of five. The majority of pitches are at least 120sq m. There's also a lot of space between the rows. It is by far the least packed continental campsite I have visited. There is power, water and drainage on every pitch and a separate area for tents. There are stunning views from most pitches. Wifi coverage and speed are good but charged extra. Guests with dogs are pitched in specific rows. We arrived on a Thursday at the beginning of June which we didn't think would be busy. We had not considered the German school holidays. Schools in Bavaria get a week off for Whitsun but those in Baden Württemberg get two weeks. This resulted in caravans pouring in during Friday evening and Saturday. On Saturday all the roads from Germany where at a standstill. By Sunday the site was full but the facilities coped well. Our comfort pitch gave us access to the family bathrooms. These included toilet, wash basin and walk in shower. They were big enough for a family of 4 and superbly fitted out. We ate in the restaurant twice. The quality of the food and service was excellent. A number of walks start near the site and dozens more nearby. Saltzburg and Berchtesgaden are a 50 minute drive away. We went up the cable car from Lofer which takes you to a beautiful plateau with a good choice of walks and Alms. The views are stunning. Lofer is a lovely little town with several restaurants and bars. There are several supermarkets. The site accepts the ACSI CC card up until the beginning of June so we paid full price but we felt we got value for money. We saw more British vans on this site than any other we stayed on in Austria. Presumably this is because it can be booked via the caravan club. This is probably the best site we have stayed on during or 25 years of touring because it has everything - large pitches, great views, superb sanitary facilities, good restaurant, peaceful, good walking. It's got it all.

Response from the Club:

Thank you for your review of this lovely site ,for your information the site no longer accepts Acsi cards for 2020 but has a long stay offer at various times during the low season with the Club.

Perfect? Almost.

Grubhof
Nothing to add about the site - A1 rated in every way; only negative at all was the fact that our pitch was a bit grass-bare but it was near the end of the season when we stayed there in late August. Huge amount to do in this beatiful area for all the family and luckily I hadn't researched the moutain biking possibilities beforehand or my family would never have seen me all week. The Saalacher Card which was free was an excellent bonus, making for free almost daily trips to the outdoor pools at Lofer and Unken (have flip-flops or crocs to hand for the latter - the tiling is viscious on the soles of the feet!) and cable car rides, plus the gorges are worth a visit as are the caves (small discount with the card). Days out - Salzburg, Berchtesgaden, Kitzbuhel and Werfen (castle as featured in Sound of Music, Where Eagles Dare and Call of Duty Black Ops II) all easy drives. Everything in this area is picturesque. Like mountain scenery, go there.
