Would not stay again

Tanner Farm Touring Caravan and Camping Park

If you think this will be like staying at a club site you will be disappointed. The access road is full of potholes. Recipient did not mention the problem with the toilet blocks, one was closed due to refurbishment, when we went to the other block that to was undergoing maintenance to the heating system. Did not use the facilities, they were cold, tools all over the place and muddy. Service roads were full of potholes and covered in mud. Service vehicles racing around at high speed. Overall the place looked dilapidated.

Excellent Stay

Tanner Farm Touring Caravan and Camping Park
We stayed here for two nights on our way down to the ferry at Newhaven, it was spot on location for the stopover as about hour's drive from here. I think we must have been staying at different site to previous reviews, or we just do our homework before going and have more realistic expectations. We could not fault it, and will go back. We were blessed as it was not at full capacity so felt spacious and pleasant. To be fair we would not go in peak times as imagine it would be a different experience but that is the same at any big site. The roads to the site are rural but you are in rural location, and the lane/drive from road to actual campsite is narrow and uneven but you pass an amazing orchard which we were blessed to see in full fruit. The shower block and laundry were super clean and spot on. Our internet worked fine. As already stated by previous reviews there is no TV but no issue. Staff were really friendly and helpful, working really hard at keeping everything in tip top shape.

Disappointing

Tanner Farm Touring Caravan and Camping Park
We stayed at this site because of its location in proximity to Sissinghurst. We had booked for two nights but only stayed one. I think the problem for us was the location of the pitch, we had no internet which isn’t a big issue, but then no television signal either. We were pitched next to another motorhome and as soon as we put our blown air heating on we had a power cut. Our neighbour also lost power on the same post. We had to use another post. This was in poor condition and the switches exposed to elements. My husband was concerned about the safety of the connections. If the pitches had been fully occupied there wouldn’t have been enough connections. In the morning my husband informed the receptionist that he had to run an extra lead out and all she said was “you must have overloaded it”. The people on the next pitch said their power supply had been fine the night before when they were the only ones plugged into it. Ours was fine on a separate supply. The units are not fit for purpose.

Disappointing

Tanner Farm Touring Caravan and Camping Park
We had a disappointing stay on this site. I booked in January for a stay in August. I spoke to the lady in Reception in January and explained what I was looking for. She was really helpful and booked me onto a pitch and gave me the pitch number. I was delighted because it was exactly what we were after and of course it is unusual to be able to book a specific pitch. When we arrived we were given a different pitch which was completely unsuitable. It was on the main access road in, we had two small children with us so quite dangerous at the speed some car drivers sped past and in addition we were opposite the bins and waste disposal. Not only did the bins attract more wasps than the rest of the site and I have an allergy to wasps (the original pitch I had booked was away from bins) but in addition rats were frequently on view even in the middle of the day around the bins. At one point we counted ten rats out in open view and could see more under the bins. This meant that rats were running about less than 12 feet from the small area our two young children had to play in. When reported, the rats were ‘dealt’ with straight away by the site maintenance team but obviously more action needed to be taken because they were back in less than 24hours. I did ask if another pitch was available but they had nothing and it was only at the end of our stay that one of the ladies in Reception said that they booked people onto pitches but could never promise that they could keep them. That policy is fine so long as people are given this information on booking and not led to believe that pitch is theirs. The older play area needs maintenance. Broken areas of wood and nails sticking out of benches and equipment and an overflowing bin. The shower and toilet blocks certainly need refreshing although on a positive note the gentleman who cleaned them worked exceptionally hard to make them as clean as possible and was extremely accommodating. The ladies in Reception were also very pleasant and accommodating. However I am surprised that this site is affiliated to the Club.

Good park which with a few improvements could be truly great

Tanner Farm Touring Caravan and Camping Park
We stayed here for a few days this week and all in, would definitely return again. Having read some whingy reviews about roads and families I’d say these were not actual concerns. First, it’s a families site, there are kids on it and they will play. That’s what kids do. Apart from one noisy family setup over two caravans, who on the whole kept it down after 11, if you don’t wants kids, book an adults site. The staff were great - the lady who moved our pitch after the first day was super accommodating when I sent a grumpy email because we had been put behind the wardens cottage. They have to live there, so there is noise, but with many other empty pitches we asked to move and that was fine. Our pitch for the second day was perfect. Noise wise, as mentioned, there were kids having fun, but on the whole everyone, even the loud chat outside caravan ones stopped after 11. There is plenty nearby to get out and visit and Sissinghust Castle and Gardens in only 15 minutes away. We also went on the yellow walk, which at about 3 miles took us through some beautiful fields and orchards. The shop is well stocked and they take paper orders and have pastries on a weekend. We used the toilet blocks and had no major issues. They could do with an update and the floors being level means that a few people having a shower makes the whole toilet floor wet. Showers were good though. There was a smell of damp mops due to that being the wet floor fix, which I would personally look at. I’d also stop charging 20p for hair dryers. Just make them free or taken them out. It just looks like penny pinching asking for 20p. Staff wise there were plenty around and the park was being mowed and kept clean all the time. Washing up sink facilities were good, no issues there. The wifi did not work at all (and seemed there was a charge if it did, which again, is a little tight) and does not look, from reviews, like it has worked for some time. The Mobile signal is patchy but I was able to get a little work done and stream Netflix. My partner had no signal all through our time on park. All in, the site did exactly what it said on the tin, so a solid 4 stars. We would go back, which is the accolade, right? Some things I would fix if I were management, like the toilets, the wifi, the hair dryers and I would make it a little clearer on the welcome sheet when the quiet times are (it is not mentioned at all, but is on their site), but as a solid base for exploring Kent, thumbs up.
