Why stay here ...

Low, decoratively shaped pine trees give this coastal site real character. Situated in the dunes of Guincho, it is perfectly placed for a mix of beach relaxation and city break exploration all year round, thanks its proximity to Lisbon, just 30km away.

The reception staff all speak good English, and the clean and tidy facilities include provision for disabled visitors and a fantastic play area, swimming and paddling pool provide plenty of entertainment for families.

Lisbon’s cobbled alleys, ancient ruins and excellent cuisine make it worth the trip, while just a short drive away is the town of Cascais, with beautifully sandy beaches and a bustling marina. The nearby Sintra-Cascais Natural Park offers lots of walking and cycling opportunities.

Very bad value for money, poor management, dilapidated facilities, very poor hygiene and very slow response to problems

Guincho
Initially given pitch that was too small, then moved to only other available, opposite maintenance yard entrance with noisy doors. Drains either side of van blocked, overflowing and smelling, took 3 days to get problem sorted. Chemical emptying point for caravans/tents broken had to use motor home empty point. On site washing/shower/laundry etc vet old and broken. Most expensive site out of our 22 site trip by a long way. Area beautiful, but this site is not worthy of the Caravan Club name!

Potentially Could be a Good Site

Guincho
Based on its size, location and facilities buildings this could be an excellent site. However it is run by Orbitur and falls short. There are two rows of pitches reserved for customers who have booked (e.g. through the Club). The remaining pitches distributed around the forest vary dramatically in terms of level, proximity to electricity, ease of access and distance from sanitary blocks. The restaurant is 'OK' limited snack bar type menu. There is quite a well stocked shop. Sanitation blocks are 'OK' but a bit 'tired'. Staff are very friendly and helpful and multilingual. Big plus point is the proximity of the dune walks and the super little cafe in the dunes (with custard tarts of course). Regular bus service from the site to Cascais and a regular train service to Lisbon. Excellent location for exploring the west coast.

Could do better

Guincho
A couple of negatives to get out of the way although there are plenty of positives. The toilet and shower block is badly needing some TLC. In the gents anyway five out of the eight strip lights didn’t work and one of the panels of Glass had a large hole in it. The shower went from hot to cold and back again all by itself as well as turning itself off every 15 seconds. The other block may have been better but I didn’t find out as either all the bulbs were blown or the automatic sensors were caput. The other issue is the 6 amp electric. Our fault for not checking and we blew it immediately. Despite switching everything onto gas we still managed to blow it with alarming regularity. Each post has four sockets and between us and the two German Motorhomes parked behind us we managed to blow up all 12 by the time the reception opened most Mornings. They came to reset and everything repeated itself. It’s a real shame they won’t invest in their facilities because the location is great and is only a short taxi ride into Cascais where you can get the train into Lisbon. The receptionists are friendly and all speak good English. The pitch although modest in size is absolutely fine and we were made aware of the sizes when booking so no issues with that. We would book again which is always the acid test but as said a general upgrade is well overdue.

Good for a visit to Lisbon

Guincho
Reception was easy and the lady spoke good English. Reserved pitch was a nice touch from the site. Good enough bar but the restaurant food was not great and we would recommend going somewhere else. Toilets were clean and the showers were fine. There is a good bus service to Cascais then a train onwards to Lisbon which we would highly recommend visiting. There is also a good looking cycleway just outside the site entrance which if you turn left as you exit will take you along the coast road although I did not have the time on this occasion to use.
