2014 looking to be a hot year for caravanning

01/04/2014

As the first signs of spring are starting to appear, things are already looking good for both the industry and holiday-makers in 2014.

The Caravan Club are pleased to have signed up record numbers of new members (up 11%) at The Caravan & Camping Show (18-23 February, NEC Birmingham), a major exhibition in the touring calendar, that is also reporting record attendance!

Exhibitors who were at the show are also positive about the market; the consensus is that the show was busy, with many people looking to either return to, or try caravanning or motorhoming holidays for the first time. They are reporting strong sales across the board, which bodes well for the season ahead and the future.

And, there is good news for tourers too! Experts are reporting that 2014 is set to be a summer scorcher, with Professor Armin Bunde of Justus Liebig University, Germany, calculating that the influence of "El Nino" will result in a 75% probability that summer 2014 will be the hottest on record, due to the very same processes that wreaked havoc across the world, including causing severe flooding in the UK.

Tony Hall, Director of Marketing for The Caravan Club says, "This winter has for many in the UK been extremely wet, with so many people going through the heartache of flooding, so reports of a good summer will be extremely welcome!"

Hall continues, "Although despite the bad weather and flooding seen across the UK during January, it  hasn't actually deterred Members from getting out on site, and in fact 6,657 more pitch bookings were made in January 2014 compared to January last year. This is a great sign for the year ahead."
