Why stay here ...

Family owned and run, this site is situated on a large estate in the Périgord Limousin Natural Park. It has three lakes, two of which are for fishing and the third for bathing with a sandy beach. The pitches are terraced and separated by hedges, and you can often choose your preferred spot.

The site’s restaurant is set in the château overlooking the lake and evening entertainment takes place in the bar. There are also excellent facilities for disabled guests.

As a base for exploring the unspoilt Périgord Vert, Le Verdoyer is excellent. The pretty town of Brantome, with its Benedictine abbey and troglodyte cave, is 30 minutes’ drive, while Limoges, famous for its porcelain, is less than 90 minutes’ drive. There are also many walking and cycling routes through the surrounding countryside.

Booked to stay 4 nights but left after 2

Château Le Verdoyer

I am really surprised that based on the toliet block alone that this site is recommended by the CC. It basically needs pulling down and rebuilding. I found it dank and dark. Its extremely outdated. The paths / roadways are also not lit at night. Its very easy to leave the road into a muddy hole at the side of the road whilst walking On the plus side the food in the restaurant is very good. I have visited many sites in most European countries. I wont be going back here again

Response from the Site Owner:

The campsite owner Floris Ausems commented "It is true that our wash blocks are not brand new but they are very clean and functional – they are situated in the outbuildings which are a part of the chateau which many of our guests find characteristic and so may seem a little dark especially when the weather is not good- We also use the eco-friendly light bulbs everywhere around the site which are not so bright but better for the planet – it probably didn’t help that it rained during your day and we are sorry for that , we would ask you to come back and see the site when the sun is shining and enjoy our quality site"

In the heart of rural France

Château Le Verdoyer
A lovely quiet site in a rural location. We visited at the end of August and there were plenty of children around but almost all were pre teens. Children's activities appeared to be geared to younger children. More than half the visitors were Dutch with just a couple of Brits. Good size pitches with electric nearby, most partly shaded. Showers were OK though water temperature seemed to change on its own. The rest of sanitary, washing facilites were fine. Overall, the site is unsophisticated, but if you are looking for somewhere quiet and relaxing, you cannot go far wrong.

Peace and quiet

Château Le Verdoyer
We visited this site at the beginning of July for nearly 2 weeks. As the kids were still at school (at least most of them), the site was really quiet and peaceful. Being in a national park, it is not close to cities but close enough for little towns where you can go for a few hours (Brantome was very pretty). Even Bordeaux is only 2h away. Also supermarket is 10-15min in the car. Stuff always friendly and helpful. There is a bar as well as a restaurant (facing the lake) on sile. Also a shop for all you might need including croissants and baguettes:) The swimming pool is great. They do advertise that there is a lake for bathing - but that is very hard to find as there is no path to it or signs to direct you to it. The only negative for me were the sanitary blocks. Very clean but strange arrangement and quite high step to the toilet. Overall, really enjoyed our stay and would return

Good site, lovely location, good for families

Château Le Verdoyer
Nice site based deep in the countryside. You are given a number of pitches when you arrive and you walk around and select your preferred one which is a nice way of satisfying everyone. The pitches are in the wooded areas on terraces so some roads quite steep to get to. Shower blocks are good, washing up area could do with a bit of an upgrade. The restaurant is very nice and in a lovely setting in the old chateau on the terrace by the lake. A few miles from the village of Nontran which has most things you would need. There is a small shop on site too which is well stocked.Would recommend.

Disappointing

Château Le Verdoyer
We arrived mid Sept 16. Plus points: Quiet site able to choose pitch. Nice views of fields if pitched at far end of site. Pitches spacious seperated by mature hedging. Negatives: lack of enthusiasm by site owner. Poor reception on arrival; had to unlock office and was put out. Although we arrived 18:30 so not late. Shower drains blocked - waste water pooling. More than 1 person showering at a time resulted in cold water, shower timed out if you put on pause. 10amp hook up for a single pitch wired to split between 2 pitches & external pitch light- effectively only giving 5amp per pitch (constant tripping of fuse). Broken paving around open air pool. Did not want to honour complementary wine. Cut stay short and would not stay again.
