Why stay here ...

Within easy reach of the port town of St. Malo, this site is a good option for families who are heading abroad for the first time. Owned and managed by the Vervel family, it is set in the parkland of a manor house with two small onsite lakes where guests can fish.

The site caters well for families in high season, with an attractive pool complex, games room and mini-golf, as well as organised entertainment which includes live Breton music and discos.

With so much to do in the surrounding area, the site is ideal for longer stays. The towns of St. Malo, Dinard and Dinan are all within 35 minutes’ drive, while there are some beautiful walking paths along the nearby Emerald Coast. Keen golfers can choose from three courses, all of which offer fine coastal views.

Strangely Disappointing - booked 5 nights stayed 1

We arrived here and were greeted in a rather dated and dark reception by a receptionist who seemed a little confused by who we were. Another receptionist then took over and charged us 14.20 euros supposedly for taxes. When we questioned this we were given a rather vague answer about the environment and handed two purple bracelets, to be worn at all times. (We had been in France for 11 weeks at this point and never been charged this much for tax). We were told where to go which was a very dark pitch so we drove around to find somewhere a little more open and sunny. When we informed them we wanted to move they said we could be charged more if we had a larger pitch. At this point in time the site was not exactly full and the atmosphere was rather that of an old holiday camp with more rules and regulations than completely necessary. In fact the atmosphere of the whole site was rather strange and not what we expected from a '5 star site'. So after one night we moved to a wonderful site just outside St Malo run by the Yelloh Group and which turned out to be a lovely site to finish our 12 week tour of France in. To finish on a positive note the site did have indoor and outdoor pools for families.

A Disappointing Experience

We only stayed one night so we could be in St Malo the next morning for the 10:30 ferry to Portsmouth. Two gripes: 1. Yes, it was the night that England lost to Croatia, but did the family of 4 on the next pitch have to swear so much when they came back from the bar ? An unpleasant experience. 2. We ate in the Restaurant at 18:30 before the match started. We spent 36 euros on a glass of wine, a small beer & two main courses. My wife had fish with an almost inedible sauce & frozen vegetables, and I had a pizza which had barely been heated up from frozen. Very disappointing and very poor value for money. Unlikely we will stay on this site again.

The best showers we have seen in France!

We spent ten days at this site in early July before the UK schools broke up so there were a few pre school children there. It was very quiet with lots of spare pitches. Our pitch was big enough even for our 7.5m caravan, awning and car. The services were located at the rear of the pitch but within easy reach to connect the water, electricity and waste. The showers etc were the best we have seen each being of a plastic pod construction which were cleaned at least twice a day and were easily cleaned after use with the provided tool. The bar opening hours increased to between 1600 and 2300 hours while we were there and we had a meal at the restaurant which was very reasonabley priced and presented well. There was plenty to see around the area with Mount St Michel about an hour away and Dinard and Dinan worth a visit. We found a town called Dol about 45 minutes away which is also worth a visit. One of the best Castels sites we have visited and would no hesitation making a return visit.

Beware sites near the end of the season.

Basically a good site, but, we went towards the end of their season when the restaurant and bar were closed and the shop have very little in it. Luckily we had taken our bikes so could cycle the 3 miles to the local town where there was a supermarket and several bars/restaurants.
