Why stay here ...

Located just outside Tours and close to the River Loire, Les Acacias is well-placed for a stopover or short stay to take in some of the nearby châteaux. It’s a small site with a rural feel despite its proximity to the town, and although many of the pitches are shaded by large trees, most get the sun during the day.

Although the facilities are limited, they are of a good standard. The restaurant is open between June and September and serves good, well-priced food. It’s worth noting that twin-axle caravans aren’t accepted.

Les Acacias is convenient for visiting Tours, with it's imposing cathedral, medieval centre and modern shopping streets. Buses stop regularly 300m from the site. There are also some excellent cycling tracks along the Loire, and the châteaux of Amboise and Chenonceau are nearby.

OK as a base for chateaux site-seeing

Stayed here for 6 nights in July to see more of the Loire. The site was a little run down and they appear to be focusing more on chalets than caravans. We noticed some caravan pitches being replaced by chalets, especially the nice pitches in the shade. The loo blocks definitely need updating and the site could do with a pool to encourage more families. We found the communal water taps were often via other peoples' pitches! Having said that, the location is great for visiting Amboise, Tours, and numerous chateaux and there is also a large supermarket a short drive away.

Great Location

We used this site on the way to Spain in January and on the way home in February. Tours had experienced above average rainfall however the pitches, especially those under the trees were fairly dry and level. Staff were very helpful, all spoke good English and kindly arranged a vet for us to get the dog treated prior to the trip back across the channel. Site clean albeit a bit old fashioned but this added to its charm. Great for walking into the town or taking the dog to the park which runs alongside the river and is just a stones throw across the main road. Will definitely return.

Stop gap on the way north to Paris

Spent 3 nights here and visited Tours and chateaux Chambourd. Both places amazing and easy to reach from this site. Toilets and showers a bit dated (old fashioned or old skool) but clean enough and worked well with plenty of hot water and loo paper (never a given in France). Level but sandy pitches with enough space for a UK caravan and car and if you wish an awning (we didn't bother with awning). Our allocated pitch was on the edge of the playing field with shade from some big trees, very welcome considering the 30+ degrees temperatures while we were there! There is definitely some road noise which for us is not a deal breaker as the site is very close to Tours centre but some may find the noise a bit intrusive. An amazing inflatable thing for kids who seemed to love every second playing on it - wisely the site deflated this feature mid/late evening so kids went home to caravan or tent to establish as much peace as possible. Is it a perfect site - no. Would we visit again - yes! Very happy to have stayed here.

Regular stop

We have stayed at this site many times enroute South and it has never changed. Now you can read that many ways. It is perfect for an overnight but the facilities are really starting to look their age. We would like to stay in the area for more than our customary overnight but the road noise here would drive me crazy and the toilets although clean are starting to look old. The pitch is always adequate but if it is wet the area is a nightmare with the sand getting dragged into the caravan, oh for hard standing! Having said all that we are already booked in for our return in November and will probably continue to use this site as it is convenient.

Good overnight stop en route south

This is a small but pleasant site. Reception staff were very friendly and spoke good English. Toliets and showers all good. Bit of roadside noise during the day especially from motorbikes. The on site restaurant is well priced. There are a variety of pitches some under trees and others more open against the field with the play park. We arrived 2 hours early of our check in time but were accommodated with no issue. If you wish to leave site you'll need a key fob to return. You need to leave a document such as a camping key card as a deposit. There is hypermarket nearby to refuel and stock up.
