Grand-Est caravan and motorhome sites

This vast region occupies much of eastern France. To the north-east, neighbouring Switzerland and Germany, Alsace and Lorraine is home to many villages of quaint brightly-painted houses, with an eclectic mix of German and French cultures and is particularly appreciated for its architecture and beautiful landscapes.

Alsace is also renowned for its wine production and there are many vineyards to visit during your stay, especially along the 105 miles of the Route des Vins d’Alsace from Marlenheim to Thann.

Lorraine, to the north, is an area where many battles and wars have taken place, notably many of the devastating battles of the Great War. Verdun's battlefields still show signs of bomb and grenade use to remind visitors of the terrible struggles that took place.

With its blend of French and German cultures and its rich history, this region has a lot to offer.

Further west, Champagne-Ardenne is famous worldwide for its sparkling wine which is still produced using traditional methods its small historical towns and cities. Nature lovers will enjoy immersing themselves in the rolling landscapes, immense forests, deep gorges and vast rivers.

This is the perfect environment to take time out from modern life, relax by the picturesque lakes, take a leisurely stroll through the towns and cities and sample the locally produced cheeses along the way.

  • Verdun Battlefield – read the stories, tour the bunkers of this humbling place
  • Cathedral of St. Stephen – one of the tallest cathedrals in France, known for the extensive use of stained glass
  • Joan of Arc birthplace – visit the village of Domrémy–la-Pucelle to learn of her life
  • Bibliothèque Humaniste (Sélestat) - one of the oldest public libraries in the world
  • Park of the Northern Vosges – a listed UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, ideal to be explored on foot or bike
  • Notre-Dame cathedral in Reims – an important religious site with imposing sculptures
  • Maison de L’Outil – museum specializing in extinct trades and tools
  • Palais du Tau – former palace of the Bishops of Reims

Top questions

How do I book an overseas site?

Overseas campsite bookings can easily be made on the Club website and "combined deals" are common when you book a campsite at the same time as your ferry crossing. Booking online means you save the £20 Contact Centre booking fee.

Does the Club take deposits for overseas bookings?

Yes, deposits for overseas bookings are calculated at 20% for a site and 25% for a ferry (unless it is a non-refundable ferry/Eurotunnel in which case full payment is due at time of booking). The final balance is due 10 weeks prior to travel.

Is the standard of overseas sites similar to that of the UK?

European campsites are star-rated by their own local authorities and can have different standards and regulations to the UK. However, the Club's travel team handpick and inspect our campsites so that members can be sure of a high standard.
