Why stay here ...

This beachside site, perfect for families, has a wonderfully natural feel and relaxed, friendly atmosphere. A small, fenced river runs through the site and shrubs grow around the pitches, offering some privacy. There's a large pool complex, and sports and play areas. The adjacent beach is an ideal natural playground for children.

The surrounding area is popular for walking, cycling and birdwatching, and ferries can be caught to Jersey and Guernsey from the nearby ports of Granville and Dielette. Close to Cherbourg, this site is ideally located for exploring Normandy. Bayeux and Saint-Lô, with its rampart, towers and Fine Art Museum, which recounts the history of tapestry, are just over an hour’s drive.

First visit

Le Grand Large
We stayed here as a couple for 5 nights at the end of June. The weather during our stay was lovely so enhanced our enjoyment of the site and area. It was the first time we had explored the north west area of the Cherbourg peninsula. We were pleasantly surprised by the scenery and really enjoyed exploring the area following the 'Route des Caps'. We could even get Radio 2 courtesy of the Channel Islands at times. We found the site itself well organised, clean, tidy and with good facilities. It is as stated directly by the beach so you can hear the sea at all times. The beach itself is very large. Sciotot with bars and restaurants is about 1 kilometre away and easily walkable via path/road or beach. Les Pieux conveniently is about 5 minutes drive away and has supermarkets and filling stations. The site seems very popular with Germans as they seemed to outnumber other nationalities. Only one issue of note-the campsite insists on the French style of tight swimming trunks if you wish to use the on site pool. We would be happy to stay there again.

One of our favourite continental sites

Le Grand Large
Our second time at this site and we'll be back again very soon. Only an hour's drive from the Cherbourg ferry terminal over the dunes from one of the most fantastic beaches we've ever walked our dogs on. The facilities are as good as most UK Club sites, the staff friendly. If there is one disappointment, the restaurants you can walk to up the beach in Sciotat are not great, so go stocked up and ready to cook in.

Campsite by sea

Le Grand Large
We have just returned from 2 wonderful weeks at this site, it was excellent, the staff were very polite and helpful and even made the arrangements at the local vets for our dogs examination prior to us returning to England. (Thank you) If you are looking for a site right by the sea then look no further, lovely clean beach, miles of golden sand, suitable for many activities i.e kite surfing, wind surfing, paddle boarding and more, if you have the equipment then this is the place, if you prefer to watch plenty of space. Great for dog walking. On the complex the swimming pools were lovely and clean as with the rest of the site. Toilets and showers plentiful. We arrived on the 1st July and left on the 15th July 2017 and I think we choose just the right time as it wasn't too crowded. Pitches were of a good size and all hedged. Great base to explore this region. We would certainly recommend this site.

lovely site

Le Grand Large
We had 10 days at this site in June. Had a lovely time, obviously helped by the warm weather. We weren't there in high season so although the site seemed full it was peaceful. The showers and toilet block were immaculate and we never had to queue for a shower once. The pool was certainly welcome as the temperature got into the 30's on some days, but once again it was blissfully quiet. It was a 5 minute walk to a beautiful sandy beach. Very safe for children as it never got deep even when the tide went right out, lovely clear water too. The pitches were all separated by their own hedge however they did seem to vary in size even though they were all the same price and ours seemed rather small in comparison to some. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Somewhat of a remote site. we had anticipated walking into the local village for an evening meal however it was a walk up a steep country lane in the dark and we didn't really find any restaurants in the local town anyway. However a 10 minute walk along the beach there is a small community (not really a village) which has a beach bar and two restaurants. There are 3 large supermarkets in the local town of Les Pieux, so shopping is not a problem. All in all we enjoyed our time here but if the weather had not been so good and we had wanted to visit different attractions in Normandy most were quite a drive way. Would definitely recommend it.

Excellent site

Le Grand Large
My wife and I and some years ago our children have visited many sites all over France and further abroad dating back over forty years. This year, in September, we spent two weeks at Le Grand Large. It is an excellent site in a magnificent position with direct easy access to a beautiful uncrowded beach. The facilities, including the swimming pools, are excellent both in terms of their high quality and the way in which they are maintained.  The staff are helpful and courteous Don Ryan
