Why stay here ...

Located on the north coast near Santander and open all year, this site is run by husband and wife team Pablo and Maria. Both English speaking and always providing an excellent service, their campsite is friendly and welcoming with pitches set on wide terraces and spotless facilities.

The site is popular in high season and provides plenty of amenities for families, including a pool and sunbathing area, a playground, a well-stocked shop and a restaurant. The beautiful beach is a 15-minute walk.

The spectacular Picos de Europa mountains are easily reached from the site and there are lots of good walking trails that enable visitors to admire the scenery. Buses run to the neighbouring town of Comillas, which is home to the remarkable El Capricho house, designed by Gaudí. The local town square also has plenty of cafés serving fantastic chocolate and churros.

Disappointed

Caravaning Oyambre
Booked 6 nights at this site after 3 weeks of touring further south and to be close to Santander for the ferry. Disappointed with size of pitch, even though had booked a serviced pitch - should have been 100sm but ours and adjacent one were around 80sm. Not big enough if you have a 7.5m caravan with awning. Only saving grace was that it was level. Some of the ‘standard’ pitches were much bigger. Seems that the owners had squeezed more pitches into our field to get extra income. No wine was offered although CC website says should have been available. Facilities were kept clean , shop not cheap but adequate. Access to serviced pitch area a little challenging for a larger outfit and exiting could be difficult if all pitches in use. Only saving grace is that it is close to ferry ports and main road not that far away. Would not stay again . CC needs to review site description as it does not reflect our experience and should compare information given to that on campsite website.

Lovely location. Some things to be aware of .

Caravaning Oyambre
The site is beautifully located with super inland views from terraced mainly grass pitches. 10A electric. Some with water. A most with water and SOME with DRAINAGE. The facilities are well maintained but in need of updating to more modern cubicles with more hanging and division of shower cubicle. The WiFi is free but very poor indeed. The pitches with drainage are located in the lowermost section by the cabins. Be aware that if you book a serviced pitch it may not have drainage! You will need transport if you wish to venture further than the super beach. The on site shop and bar/restaurant are great as are the staff.

Lovely site - Great Location

Caravaning Oyambre
Welcome on arrival was very friendly which included a lovely bottle of Rioja - we stayed for ten nights at the end of June. The site has a number of touring pitches all quite close together of varying sizes, and on the top field a lot of seasonal pitches occupied by Spanish locals. Initially we chose a pitch on this top field, however, we felt quite isolated and didn’t receive the most friendly of welcome towards flustered Brits arriving in their domain so we moved on. We were allocated a pitch which was fine in size but was tucked out of the way in the corner which we weren’t happy about. We asked to change pitches but were told other pitches weren’t available for the duration of our stay, which didn’t appear to be the case. Eventually we did relocate to a pitch which suited us more and made our stay much more enjoyable. However, if did seem that if you were Spanish you could get your first choice. All that said it is a lovely site with fabulous views over towards the stunning Picos de Europa mountain range a little over 30 minutes drive from the site. Francis the owner is very much hands on running reception, taking new arrivals to their pitches, serving drinks in the bar and generally socialising. There is a good pool complex with a small indoor pool, the toilets were immaculately clean and were cleaned several times a day. Good showers with good pressure and plenty of hot water. There is a pathway to the Oyambre beach direct from the site which is a comfortable 15 minutes walk. Locally there is plenty to do locally with both Comillas and San Vicente de la Barquera close by and also have lovely beaches too. Santallina del Mar is a lovely rustic village inland and well worth a visit. Further afield visits to the Picos is extremely rewarding and if you have a head for heights take the cable car 🚠 in Fuente De to the plateau around 2500 metres, but not forgetting Covadonga at the other side of the mountains. Ribadesella on the coast is a pretty fishing port on the coast with a beach on one side of the estuary. Last but not least Santander. Although a port city the beaches and sea front areas are a definitely worth a visit with lovely wide promenade stretching all along the beach areas. There is free WiFi available on site which was variable at best, often not working. All in all a great site and a good base to make your first steps to explore northern Spain. By

Highly recommend

Caravaning Oyambre
We have recently returned from a 16 night stay here. The site staff are very friendly, helpful and speak very good English. The site is very well maintained, clean and it is clear the owners take pride in the campsite. The pitches are compact, I recommend you book the larger pitch, which has a water tap, grey water drain and 10 amp hook up. If you have a large van or motorhome, over 7.5 m then book early and make sure you inform them. There are a number of pitches suitable but! The atmosphere of the site is very pleasant and family orientated. There is a very large a clean beach with lifeguards 15 minutes walk from the site. There is a campsite shop but it is very limited in stock, small local supermarkets are close by but the nearest big supermarket is approx 12 miles, however the quality of produce is excellent. If we return to this area, Cantabria, I would definitely return to Oyambre.

Great reception staff.

Caravaning Oyambre
Our first stopover for one night as we headed into Spain from the Santander ferry in mid September. Due as much to our own error (taking two wrong turnings!) we arrived at the site as the light was going however the young lads on reception were really welcoming even walking over to our pitch and showing us around. Some of the pitches looked quite close and tight on space however the pitch we had for our 7m Motorhome was fine. Washblock facilities a little dated but very clean and hot water in the showers! Before we left in the morning we took the opportunity to take a walk down to the beach via the narrow but quiet road behind the site and obviously then up hill to return! Nothing to steep or strenuous though.
