The Caravan Club was started by just 10 men and one woman on 14 June 1907 at 72 Stamford Brook Road, London. Little did those 11 pioneers know what they had started, for today The Club can boast almost 360,000 households. Representing 1 million caravanners, motor caravanners and trailer tent owners, The Caravan Club’s members represent over half the UK’s caravanning community.
In 2007, The Caravan Club celebrated 100 years of supporting, promoting and developing caravanning in the UK and Ireland with a series of special events, exhibitions and even a new corporate identity.
In order to mark this milestone, The Caravan Club published The History of The Caravan Club 1901-2007, a special, limited-edition book celebrating The Clubs Centenary, priced at £24.99 - this can be ordered from The Club Shop.
Centenary events
The Centenary was celebrated with a number of events throughout the year. These included The Club's 80th National Rally, a Centenary Ball (as well as a Scottish and Irish Ball), a Royal Garden Party and a float at The Lord Mayor's show.
Images from some of these events can be seen in the 2007 photo gallery.
Centenary Memorabilia
The Caravan Club celebrated its 100th birthday with the issue of a set of exclusive memorabilia for Club members, ranging from a caravan tea-pot to a teddy bear.
Each selection was specially designed to commemorate the Centenary, and all displayed the striking Centenary logo.
Competitions
A number of high profile competitions were organised throughout the Centenary year. Members had the chance to win a Subaru Forester, a Bailey Indiana caravan, a motor caravan and a trailer amongst other things.
Children whose parents were members were also invited to enter our Time Capsule competition. Entrants could submit a painting, a poem or a story highlighting the fun of caravanning with winning entrants having their works of art placed in the Time Capsule.
