High Days & Holidays
The Caravan Club’s fascinating collection of memorabilia is featured in an innovative touring exhibition called High Days & Holidays, which runs until the end of 2008. This exhibition has been created by The National Motor Museum, Beaulieu, and supported by the Museums, Libraries & Archives Council (MLA) Designation Challenge Fund. It takes a novel approach to the theme of leisure and motoring, and provides access to the Museum’s unique and internationally significant photographic, archive and object collections.
Travelling in time and place, from Victorians to 1960s Mods and Rockers, far off holidays to more familiar locations, it illustrates some of the many ways in which motoring has enabled us to make more of our leisure time, and how personal transport has revolutionised our access to the country and seaside. High Days & Holidays features a wide range of items; photos and albums, travelogues, postcards, mementoes, picnic hampers and caravanning memorabilia, to take a light-hearted view of hobbies and holidays, such as touring, days at the races, camping and caravanning.
The exhibition is a rare opportunity to view items from The Caravan Club Collection and is the first time that The National Motor Museum has created a comprehensive touring exhibition. It is a collaborative venture, enabling other collections and museums to engage and release the hidden histories of items which may previously have been held in storage or reference collections.
High Days and Holidays can be seen in June 2008 at The National Motor Museum, Beaulieu, Hampshire.
