Day of discovery in Northumberland

30 July 2008

A wide range of family activities are due to take place in the Northumberland National Park on Friday August 1st, it has been announced.

Simonside Family Discovery Day will include walking activities guided by local farmers and archaeologists, story-telling, craft workshops and a treasure hunt.

As well as pursuits designed for the younger generation and families, some 60 older and less-abled people will be able to take part in a LandRover safari ride and picnic on Simonside to allow them to enjoy the wonderful views of the region.

"The familiar profile of the sandstone range that is Simonside can be seen from all over the northeast; the hills are steeped in history and legend and are now an international special area of conservation for wildlife," the National Park Authority adds.

A number of other tourism facilities are present in the region, including Ingram Visitor Centre and Carvoran Roman Army Museum.

People inspired by this news could well be tempted to take part in walking activities organised by The Caravan Club.
