Rainy days did not deter a growing number of visitors from making the most of Great British attractions in 2007, a new report has revealed.
According to a VisitBritain survey released yesterday (October 8th), visitor figures for UK attractions increased by three per cent in 2007, with Mercedes-Benz World in Surrey recording the greatest year-on-year increase of 418 per cent.
Tom Wright, VisitBritain chief executive, commented: "Come rain or shine our world renowned attractions offer something for all our visitors, whatever the season."
The Tower of London topped the poll of most visited paid for attractions with over two million visitors, while Xscape Milton Keynes was the most popular free visitor site with over 6.9 million people making the trip last year.
Despite the weather, visitors were apparently happy to pull on their wellies and venture into the great outdoors for walking and other activities, with country parks, farms, gardens and wildlife attractions recording average increases of between four and eight per cent.
Another VisitBritain survey recently revealed that 26 per cent of Britons believe the UK has a rich cultural heritage in addition to a vibrant contemporary culture.
