Motor caravan con man jailed

20th March 2008

Good news in the fight against motor caravan crime.  Jason McDonagh, a 27 year old of Southmead admitted conspiracy to defraud in a court case at Bristol Crown Court, and was jailed for 20 months.

The scam being operated - estimated to have netted the criminals involved £250,000, and to have cost insurers around twice that much - was based on the 'ringing' of stolen motor caravans to enable them to be resold to innocent purchasers with apparently legitimate new identities.

Congratulations to the officers of Operation Termite who carried out this investigation, notably Detective Sergeant Stuart Toms, who was commended by the presiding judge for his 'enormous amount of work and dogged determination'.
