Caravan Club announces £12.7 million investment in its UK Sites Network
Published:
25 February 2010
The Caravan Club is set to spend £12.7 million across its UK
sites network in 2010. Exciting plans for the year ahead
include site acquisitions north and south of the border, and
improvements on existing sites to ensure Members have the best
possible holiday experiences. This figure is in addition to
the £90m spent on the network over the previous eight years.
In Scotland a new site on the network is Lochside Caravan Club
Site, Forfar - open to members and non-members from 26th
March 2010. Meanwhile Balbirnie Park Caravan Club Site, in
Glenrothes, will be benefiting from a completely refurbished toilet
and shower block, together with some infrastructure
improvements. Grummore Caravan Club Site, The Club's most
remote site, located in the stunning Highlands, has seen its lease
extended by 20 years.
In a picturesque parkland location within a few minutes walk of
the centre of Forfar - the historic county town of Angus - the
five-acre Lochside Caravan Club Site offers 78 pitches for touring
caravans, motor caravans and tents. There is lots to do for
all ages, and for all the family, in all weathers, thanks to the
adjacent sports facilities, children's play park and leisure
centre. Forfar Country Park is a haven for wildlife, with
woodland, grassland and wetland habitats, together with a programme
of events for visitors to enjoy. Forfar itself is an
excellent base from which to explore Glamis, the glens and the
Angus coastline with its rugged cliffs and sandy beaches.
The development work at Balbirnie Park Caravan Club Site, due
for completion in time for the busy summer season, will ensure the
site continues to meet The Club's demanding quality
standards. In its parkland setting, the 76-pitch site is
popular with walkers with a variety of marked trails leading from
the site, many of which are also suitable for wheelchairs and
mobility scooters.
Opened by The Club in 1968, Grummore is scenically placed on the
shores of Loch Naver and provides a remote site for members wanting
to get away from it all as nearest shops are
20 miles away. Its peaceful seclusion, stunning scenery and diverse
wildlife also make it a favourite with bird watchers, anglers and
walkers.
Just south of the border in County Durham, a £2m new acquisition
and build at Barnard Castle Teesdale, is underway. Set in
open countryside, just a pleasant 10-minute walk from the
picturesque market town, the eight acre site will provide 76
touring pitches, all of which will be hardstanding.
Park Coppice Caravan Club Site in the Lake District will benefit
from a record £2.6m investment which will see all three toilet
blocks refurbished, roadways and hardstandings relaid and the
development of three new play areas.
A large redevelopment is planned for Southland Caravan Club Site
on the Isle of Wight, to include improvements to the arrival area,
reception, and toilet blocks, and an extension with 35 new pitches
- all hardstandings.
These are all in addition to The Club's continuous refurbishment
and maintenance programme across the sites network to ensure top
quality accommodation for Members.
"These exciting developments represent a significant investment
in our UK sites network," commented Nick Lomas, Director of
Marketing at The Caravan Club. "We are sure that Members will
enjoy these new sites, as well as the upgraded facilities.
The work plan for the coming year demonstrates our commitment to
them, as well as to the UK's tourism economy."
