Sittingbourne Certificated Locations

The town of Sittingbourne in Kent has a fascinating industrial heritage, which includes brickmaking, barge building and the manufacture of paper.

It was these trades that led to the construction of one of Sittingbourne’s biggest attractions. In 1905, the Sittingbourne and Kemsley Light Railway was established.

The line transported the raw materials to make paper and then the finished product to where it needed to be. Today, the original steam engines and rolling stock still operate and make for an interesting day out.

Those into literature will be interested to know that Sittingbourne featured in the Wife of Bath’s Prologue, which makes up part of Geoffrey Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales.
