Why stay here ...

Ash Meadow is located in West Herefordshire's 'Golden Valley' just 8 miles from the border town of Hay on Wye, famous for its second hand books, quirky shops and Hay Literary Festival.

Set on a small non-working farm, the site offers an excellent base for exploring the beautiful and unspoilt countryside of Herefordshire and the Welsh Borders with its many black and white villages, churches, footpaths and mountains. The Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains are within easy reach, as is the Forest of Dean and the Shropshire Hills.

Ash Meadow is a quiet and secluded site with lovely views over the Golden Valley. The site is in a large gently sloping field with a stream at the bottom. Guests have the use of the 3 acre meadow, subject to farming activities, which may include haymaking. All pitches have electric hook-up and are generously spaced with plenty of room for awnings, pup tents etc. Local bus services to Hay on Wye and Hereford stop at the site entrance.

The site is an excellent base for exploring this lovely area including the Welsh Borders, Hay on Wye, Hereford, The Black Mountains, Brecon Beacons and the Wye Valley. The local area caters for many outdoor recreation activities including walking, bird watching, pony trekking, cycling, canoeing and climbing. There are excellent shops, sports centres and swimming pool in the cathedral city of Hereford (15m).

The area also has a superb selection of pubs, restaurants and take-aways. There is an excellent village pub within 1 mile, Hay on Wye and Hereford have good supermarkets, and the nearest village shop, Post Office and doctors is just 2.5 miles away in Peterchurch.

Ash Meadow CL offers a quiet and peaceful site, well away from the road but with easy access. A variety of wildlife is often seen on site, and our own free-range chickens will be frequent visitors. For this reason we regret we cannot accept dogs on site. We also have a holiday cottage to rent.

A great place to just chill out.

First visit to this area of Herefordshire and the Welsh boarders, and wasn’t disappointing. l think the fantastic weather helped.Mike was very helpful and the information available.Large area to pitch with electrics and sunsets. We approached from Hereford which is the best way.Plenty of places to visit,Hay , Black mountains,Elan valley, NT. gardens and others.Would have been ideal for Billie who we borrow sometimes(she’s a dog).

Beautifully peaceful CL

Ash Meadow
We have just stayed at Ash Meadow for a week to encompass the Hay-on-Wye Literary Festival. This site is definitely recommended, it’s beautifully kept by the owners. It is set back from the road and all the pitches are good. The remainder of the large field is a wonderful wild flower meadow, we were lucky enough to see Deer at the bottom of the paddock which is bordered by the small, but pretty river Dore, it is great to see a clear river. The owner Mike mows all round the edge so you can stroll around the paddock after a day exploring the area. The views from the site are of the local hills and are beautiful. The fresh eggs from Mike’s chicken are excellent. If you want a base to explore the area, this is a site to consider. This is a great base to see local attractions, and walking in beautiful countryside. Arthur’s Stone, Moccas Park Wood Nature Reserve (fantastic views and can see the campsite) are good to visit. Good eats at The Pandy Inn, Gwatkins Restaurant and cider shop, and a lovely village shop two minutes drive away at Peterchurch for an excellent stock of provisions. Hay-on-Wye is a must visit, 7 miles away. Further afield is Gospel Path for the most amazing views..

Large cl

Ash Meadow
Just spent a week at Ash Meadow and really enjoyed it. The owner is friendly and informative. The site has a slight slope but not a problem when using ramps and it is large with plenty of space between other units.Ash Meadow is situated between Hereford and Brecon .There’s a bus service each way but not regular,so if you use the buses you must plan your trips carefully. We visited Brecon,Hay On Wye and Hereford by bus which stops outside the cl and had no problems. The site is clean and tidy and very little road noise with nice countryside views, hopefully we will visit again!

Our favourite ever CL!

Ash Meadow
We had a wonderful couple of weeks enjoying the peace and tranquillity at this lovely CL. It’s very spacious with lovely views across a wildflower meadow and lots of fruit trees to provide shade at the top of the site. There’s an abundance of bird life and we also very much enjoyed the friendly free range chickens keeping us company! There is lots to do and see in the area and we loved Hay on Wye, particularly the Thursday markets. Owner Mike provided a warm welcome and was always around to answer any questions. There’s a slight slope but nothing too tricky, and we found the access very straightforward. We were sad to leave and hope to return the next time we head to this beautiful part of the world.

What a cracker

Ash Meadow
This to us is a gem of a sight. We are just coming to the end of a fantastic 2week stay. Ease of access, greated on arrival by Mike who makes you feel very welcome. All pitches have great space and lovely veiws.there is a bus stop just outside the entrance we didn't use it but spoke to a couple who did and they were more than happy with the service. The sites shower and toilet facilities looked really nice, but are still closed at present time, not that that affected us as we use our own. There's an information block with plenty of ideas for day out and walks ect. We can certainly recommend the sugarloaf mountain walk, and at hers stone. Love the chickens roaming around. There is a great spot to go and sit along the river wye where you can swim, canoe, ect only about 3miles away near brobury House and Gardens. We visited Hey on wye, Hereford and some national trust house's and parks all not to far away. The biggest compliment we can give Mike and his wife about this great cl is we will definitely be back. Oh and forgot to mention we were told to just help ourselves to any fruit from the trees 😁.
