Motorhome Aires in France

We have been travelling to France for many years but only for about 7 years with a Motorhome. We always travel out of season and prefer ACSI sites but would like to try smaller sites or Aires for overnight stops, particularly as we have downsized to a PVC. The problem is that there appear to be several websites and various organisations some of whom require membership. I am quite happy to pay for a stay but don’t really want to join a organisation then only use a couple of times. Can anybody provide a simple guide to the best options?

Camping-Car Park

It will cost you a few Euro to get the card but it's worth every cent

Enjoy

I would agree. Most, but not all, have 6 amp EHU. You are also able to see in real time how many spaces are left.

Another vote for Camping Car Park, check them out >here<. There really are only two organisations operating chains of dedicated motorhome sites. covering France. One as above and France Passion. Anything else are just directories/Apps listing sites/parking places. Some are free to use but most require a small annual charge to use.

The Camping -Car chain is getting the votes, but are their Aires in the places you want to visit?

Take Arras and Troyes for example - both worth a day on your way south from Calais. Tne Camping-Car  chain looks to have Aires -  but 30 km from each town.  Google remains your universal source for Aires nearer than that, and the towns themselves.

The OP did specifically mention overnight stops ET. Given the rapid increase in CCP sites it is normally possible to find one along your route for that purpose. For specific places not covered by that network we tend to use the search for sites App, which can be used offline, it has a small annual charge.

Totally agree & they are expanding all the time.... have read that they are taking over many municipal sites which I guess have the foundation of amenities already installed.....

I much prefer to support local communities by staying at village and small town aires which are generally free although sometimes you pay a small charge or put a few euros in an honesty box. Buy your baguette and a few groceries in the morning to help village shops. There’s thousands of traditional aires in France, far more than the new breed of camping car parks which are, sadly, swallowing up many of my beloved municipal camp sites. To find an aire, you can use Google or apps like Park4Night, but I prefer the fantastic colour guides and maps called All the Aires France from Vicarious Media. It’s the most comprehensive aires guide available and also lists the majority of camping car parks and commercial aires.
