Great site shame about the noise.

This was our first visit to the site and we were greeted on a Friday evening by very friendly wardens even though we were quite late after being held up on the M4 for 3 hours. We chose one of the many fully serviced pitches within easy reach of the amenity block (which as you would come to expect from the CC were excellent). We set up and settled in for the night, we expected a bit of road noise as I had Google Earthed the location prior to travelling and was aware of the close proximity to the A40. But what we didn't expect was to be next to  Donnington Park in the middle of a Super Bike meeting. It sounded like every wannabe racer was out on the A40 that night and a couple of other nights throughout our stay. The one thing we hadn't expected was to be woken on Saturday morning thinking that we were in the centre of Kandahar with the gun shots from the near by firing range of the infantry battle school. This was heard on and off until roughly midday every day except for Sunday. Now for the positives, once we got used to the noises (after a few days) we really enjoyed the stay. The site was very clean and well laid out with every warden we met being very friendly and helpful. The dog walking area was fantastic and well laid out. We walked the 10 minute path to the Three Horseshoes pub and enjoyed a fantastic meal, the savoury welsh cake starter was to die for. This site is well positioned for easy access to the beacons national park, and a trip to Big Pit is a must.  And if you are a fan of pizza then a visit to LaBelle pizza (http://www.labellepizza.co.uk/) in the town centre for one of the best pizza's you will ever eat.

A Very Picturesque Site

This was our third visit to this site and it certainly won’t be our last. It has to be one of the most picturesque sites in the whole of the network, with magnificent views over the majestic Brecon Beacons. There is so much to do in the area and the site is an excellent base for both walking and cycling. The historic market town of Brecon is about half an hours walk away along an attractive canal path. The town itself has museums, an ancient Norman cathedral and riverside walks. The town’s market hall is worth a visit on market days (Tuesdays and Fridays), and a farmers’ market is held on the second Saturday of each month. Boats can be hired from the canal basin by the hour, half-day or day. Alternatively enjoy a delightful canal cruise with Dragonfly Cruises which depart from the front of Theatre Brycheiniog. The Brecon Beacons National Park Visitor Centre is just a short drive away and is a must to visit. The centre has a café, shop, exhibition area and one of the best views of Pen-y-Fan (the highest mountain in southern Britain). The CC site itself is immaculate with first class facilities. The site has its own supermarket where you can buy everything you need during your stay. The staff at the site are very friendly, welcoming and helpful. We are already looking forward to our next visit.

Good site 67/100

This campsite is set in one of the great walking areas of Britain. In addition to walking there are free museums such as the Big Pit, narrow boat cruises on the beautiful Brecon canal  and the scenic mountain railway. The campsite access is very easy being just off the A40. The downside to that being that there is quite a bit of road noise. Wi-fi is very good as is satellite reception. Vodafone was only GPRS but calls coud be made and received without all of the annoying break up of reception experienced in other remote areas. The wardens here have a relaxed attitude leaving the campers to get on with enjoying themselves. There is a well stocked shop  to supplement the Morrisons in nearby Brecon city centre. There are very may fully serviced pitches and  they are of a very good size. The campsite is very dog friendly and there are excellent walks available locally and in the Beacons. The only grouses I have related to our fellow campers on this site. There seems to be an almost flagrant disregard these days for the rules. Many people were driving at more than the 5mph limit. Dogs were often seen off leads not just in the dog walk but actually in the camp site itself.  In the dog walk which is great there was dog dirt in several places. Being woken up before seven on a Sunday morning by barking dogs was no laughing matter either. Overall the site is very good but a shame about some of the campers!

Great site

We stayed in May and had excellent weather the first day which meant the dog walk, which has to be the best on the network, down by the stream was a delight. We then followed the signs to the Three Horseshoes in the village and enjoyed a drink outside with the dogs, though I believe dogs are allowed in the bar area. Apparently very popular for meals and  already booked up for that evening. As others have said, the walking route to Brecon round the roundabout and across the A40 requires some care, but then you are just down the steps to the canal path. The weather turned and it was cooler so somewhere indoors was a priority and the Clarence (believe The Bank also does) allows dogs inside. It was very busy with locals having Sunday lunch. The rest of Brecon was pretty much closed on Sunday, but it was well worth the walk up to see the cathedral and they have a small tea room with covered verandah where we could sit with the dogs overlooking the herb garden and cathedral.  In terms of the site, although it was busy there was enough space and no waiting in the shower block, which was immaculate and had a decent bench seat in the cubicles rather than those silly plastic things you find at many sites. Very useful little shop on site. And finally, but by no means least importantly, our thank you to the staff team who were welcoming and helpful at all times but especially when we needed help because the step of our motorhome would not retract. They advised on dealers we could go to and also gave numbers for mobile repairers and one of them (Usk Valley I think it was) rang us back and actually gave instructions over the phone on what we needed to do, for which many, many thanks.

Perfection (if a little noisy)

If you are into cycling & walking, you are spoilt for choice, from leisurely river / Canal walking to the more adventurous Brecon Beacons & Black mountains.  The club does mention there is noise from the adjacent A road, but it does not mention the Battlefield training school just beyond the A road, small arms & machingun practice most days !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice but a little noisy

Easter 2015. First time we have stayed here and although the site is very clean, well laid out and with a well stocked shop, there are noise issues from the roads (as the site is on the corner of a roundabout) and also to get to Brecon by foot you have to work your way around the roundabout which can be quite dangerous depending on the time of day. As a base location for walking in the Beacons its a great site. There is a pub nearby but if it has been raining you will need the correct footwear as part of the route to get there will incorporate muddy paths. Toilets blocks are new and great but during our visit both blocks were closed at the same time due to apparent water issues.

Lovely Site but overpriced!

The site & the staff are brilliant. We have used this campsite every year since 2001 & it has been consistently above average. However, the prices for a pitch & 2 adults....£27.00 a night? I thought they'd moved it to the Lake District....... One of the main reasons for being a member of the Caravan Club, is that you get consistently good sites at reasonable prices...... This seems to be changing.......for the worse! There is much more competition out there nowadays.  You can park your motorhome on one of the dedicated parking slots on the main car park in Brecon, from 1800-0800 for Free! Britstops have many Free overnighting spots all over the country & they're growing. Time to reconsider our membership!

Brilliant site

We have been using this site for many years and the recent refurbishment of the site is brilliant. The roads and signage are excellent while the toilet blocks are outstanding. Facilities across the site really are of the highest order and the Caravan Club is to be congratulated on the overall and long overdue improvements. Well done to the Club and the Wardens who keep the site in immaculate condition.

A Lovely Site

I loved this site.  In spite of a disappointing forecast the weather was beautifully sunny.  Facilities were everything you would expect from the CC.  It was spacious, leafy and quiet, with the dramatic backdrop of the Brecon Beacons - sit and watch the spectacular cloud formations over the mountains.  My elderly dog loved the dog-walk, and galloped around like a puppy.  It's a pleasant stroll even without a dog - wide grassy paths along a wooded slope bordered with bluebells and wildflowers, down to a rocky stream, and filled with birdsong.  Over a bridge across the stream and it's a 5 or 6 minute walk along a back lane to a nearby village and a dog-friendly pub.  5 minutes across the dual carriageway and down some steps leads you onto the canal towpath.  In one direction it's a 30-40 minute easy stroll into Brecon.  In the other direction you can walk for miles along the Taff Trail, easy walking along flat paths, through the beautiful valley of the Usk, with spectacular views of the Beacons in the background. A word of warning: the village of Pencelli was much further away than I expected, and when we got there, tired and thirsty, the small pub was closed (1.30pm) and there was nothing much to see.  Much better to come off the towpath at Bridge 158, turn left and walk 10 or 15 minutes down the road to the pretty village of Llanfrynach, where the White Swan serves excellent food all day. Car parks in Brecon are motor home friendly (no height barriers), but the supermarket car parks are not very big.  There is a large (pay and display) car park a little way out on the other side of the town, situated on the bank of the Usk, with a pleasant walk by the river back into town along The Promenade.

Great base and lovely staff!

Our first visit and a lovely site very well maintained. Brecon is close but still a car drive away. Its small streets and shops can pass a good few hours before walking down to the River Usk. We only stayed a couple of nights on our way back from Pembrokeshire but will choose this site over Tredegar House in future as it has much more to offer for us.
