First visit since reopening

This was our first visit since it reopened. A lot more serviced pitches available. New toilet block was very clean and the ability to split it into two halves to clean was great as it meant facilities were always available. Locked gates were a reassuring addition. The only negative was the wifi. It is claimed that it is silver, but regularly was unavailable. Would be looking at a site and then the WiFi would just disconnect. Regularly did not even see the WiFi as an option when looking on our phone. I realise some people may not want WiFi, but if it is offered as an option it should work. As the site does not have any phone reception, I would think that good WiFi would be a must for some.

A First-Ever Campervan overnight stay

I took the plunge and booked an overnight (18th-19th October) stay in my lovely, newly acquired 1993 T4 at the Caravan and Motorhome Club site at Clumber Park not far off the A1 - a good halfway point between my home and that of my parents in North Yorkshire… It was a terrific choice for my first-ever campervan experience. The camp is very secure (I’m a lone female traveller most of the time so this is an important confidence booster) and set in gorgeous parkland near a National Trust property. The staff were SO helpful - assisting me with a series of ‘first-evers’: electric hook up, forgetting matches to light my cooker-rings (rookie error, I know!). I’m afraid I forgot to ask their names but I will be ever grateful! Recently refurbished, the loos and shower-block facilities are absolutely lovely and although I didn’t use it, there’s a laundry-room too. There’s a children’s play area but I resisted the temptation to try the swings… next time maybe! I had a cosy first night after a pre-dinner walk in the parkland and felt very welcomed, secure and comfortable. I will certainly be visiting the Clumber Park site again but will try next time to make sure my stay coincides with one of the weekly visits of the fish and chip or pizza van! Next time, I’ll try and remember to take some photographs. Thankyou to the staff for helping me kick off my campervan adventures so brilliantly! I heartily recommend the site to the Club Community.

Excellent site

We were a bit concerned about visiting this site after reading some of the recent reviews, but after visiting it I don’t really understand what some folks were on about. The site is really well maintained, the new shower and toilet blocks are probably the best we have seen. John, the warden was very helpful and polite. The site is very close to a National Trust property which is brilliant for walkers and cyclists and also there are key coded gates from the site straight in to the woods surrounding the site. Definitely recommend the site.

Lovely Site And Location But Let Down By Warden

The site is very nice and perfectly located for walking and cycling, unfortunately it is let down as mentioned many times already on reviews around the Internet by the unfriendly, unprofessional and argumentative male warden. Which us a shame as without him it would be a great site to visit regularly

Loved this site before AND still after the refurb!

We stay at Clumber regularly as it’s only a short journey from home and so is great for weekends away with the kids. This review comes after our first visit following the recent upgrade and refurbishment. We stayed on a new serviced pitch (which is a new thing for Clumber as serviced pitches weren’t installed previously). The site is a good size with plenty of space between pitches, great facilities - the new shower facilities etc are very modern and spotlessly clean. The site has only been open for a few weeks but is already back to being as busy as it was pre-upgrade. The wardens are super friendly and helpful. They are always around on site and stop for a chat or to say hello. Checking in is as always very efficient and we were greeted with a friendly welcome back. The new play area was a hit with the kids, as was the greatly improved bike store. It was much easier to put bikes away safely overnight and we didn’t need to worry about overcrowding. Great to see significant improvements and investment in the site by the Caravan and Motorhome club.

We have our own YouTube channel and made a short video during our stay:

Site and the club urgently needed to improve customer experience and the grounds keeping.

Our first trip to the site since the refurbishment. The new facilities are fine, although why the site was closed for so long to do them is not clear. The site has been open for 3 weeks now and the grounds look completely unkept. Poor welcome by staff. After selecting a pitch and returning for the barrier key, we had to listen to the staff complaining about their customers (us). A potential new member was in the queue before us and was interested in joining and looking for advice. Staff simply directed them to the website for any information about the site and club benefits. Staff could not be bothered to spend time with them, giving advice or guidance. This has late afternoon mid week and there was only ourselves waiting to be served. Suggest customer service training urgently undertaken by the club. Walking around the site (which wasn’t full) there were weeds on all pitches. Apart from the new toilets and park, the site was unkept. The road to the site and tarmac areas within the site have not been touched. Why would you close the site for 1 yr and not sort the drive and tarmac areas of the site. (not good enough club… first impresssions ! ) If the reviews allows photos, I will include. New security locks for the toilets on the larger outer doors are very difficult to use (code and turn the locks). The club got it ok on the internal toilet door with a code lock only but why have a different type on the other entry door. The same locks (2 handed to open) are of the outer gates of the site and give you access to clumber park. Again returning though these gates is very difficult and I watched families struggling several times to gain access. Anyone who struggles with their hands to open jars and glass bottles etc will understand what I mean. You also have to use both hands to gain access, which will mean anyone without the use of both will struggle. The location is great for walks and cycling, and kids will love the new park. I feel the club and site need to sort the points above and quickly fix the poor customer service and experience that other on this forum/reviews have already noted.

Like a refugee camp when busy

The facilities having recently been refurbished are great and the site is clean and tidy. The problem is that there is no separation between the pitches and they are crammed in. If you want a noisy busy site with groups sitting around drinking then this is the site for you, if you want privacy and piece and quiet then don’t go at weekends and during school holidays.

Lovely site in beautiful location with plenty of walks from the site

When I joined the club, this was the site I most wanted to stay at. We visit Clumber Park frequently for walks and the idea of staying for a few days was the main reason we joined. I was disappointed to find it had just closed for renovations. It has now reopened and I have just had my first midweek break there. It was every bit as good as I'd hoped for. The new facility blocks are fab - spotlessly clean and well laid out! I'm a wheelchair user with assistance dog and we had plenty of space for her to help me with showering and dressing, without her getting wet too. The only slight niggle is that the new separate toilet was out of order throughout my stay. I was expecting to have to take the van down to the visitor centre to access walks but was pleasantly surprised to find plenty of walks directly from the site. You can walk down through Hardwick Village to the lake and then all the way round, via the visitor centre, and other National Trust attractions. We also quite liked the walk behind the campsite, through King Charles's Breck. This was a good place to let my dog off lead. We also picked brambles as we went. The pizza van comes twice a week (Wed/Sat), so we had pizza one evening for dinner. That was a lovely surprise. There is also a chippy van on Fridays. Staff onsite were really friendly and helpful. I will definitely be back again and I expect this site to become a regular weekend haunt.

Wonderful friendly site

I am new to caravaning and stayed at this site over two consecutive weekends on one of my first outings . The welcome and help I received on arrival was first class despite the arrivals area being very busy. The site is beautiful , in a great location for walking and cycling and with fantastic new amenity blocks and some great level pitches. Yes there was some noise from barking dogs but that didn’t detract from my stay. I read a previous review about rude wardens but couldn’t disagree more, for me they were very welcoming, kind and understanding of my inexperience. I would highly recommend this site and will certainly be back again in the near future.
