A hidden gem

Stopped here for one night on our way home as it has easy access from M6. Made most welcome by the warden on arrival. Had a modern serviced pitch set in the middle of the site where the hall once stood. Site is quiet and has a super dog walk, red squirrel viewing hide and an amazing Fairy Glen walk. We were intrigued by the hall’s history of being used as a hospital during the First World War. Remnants remain in the grand stone steps and lime tree avenues. No toilet block, but waste facilities are spread around the site so never too far to use them. We will definitely return for a longer visit.

Peaceful site for a quiet trip

We stayed for 2 nights on our way home from a longer trip in the NE. The site has no toilets or showers so we booked a serviced pitch, which was well-maintained and made things a lot easier. The site is clean and tidy, the views are fab and the wardens are friendly. It’s possible to walk to the pub from the site but takes about 25 minutes at a decent pace. There weren’t many families staying on the site. We are a 30-something couple and we found it to be perfect for us. We had a lovely stay and we will be returning.

Two night stopover

On our way to Dumfries and Galloway. First time here, recommended by a friend as a cracker of a site. Bumpy road access, but fine if you keep your speed down! The site is a gem, despite having no facilities block. Lovely and quiet and the pitches are well spaced and placed. All really well maintained and presented. A credit to the site stall. There are a couple of nice pubs in the adjacent village, both of which serve food. What’s not to like?

A little gem

We stopped here for just one night on the way back from travelling around Scotland. It is a great location, in lovely countryside but yet not far off the M6. The grounds are beautiful, spacious pitches and most quite private. A slight problem was that some pitches were too shady because of the trees, making it quite dark. For our two lively dogs it was heaven. A large enclosed field where they could run around and a nice walk through the woods and along a track to the Greyhound Pub that was dog friendly. We would echo a previous review that the grey waste for motorhomes was very difficult to access (ours comes out in the centre of the van) meaning that none of it actually went in the drain! But that was only a small irritation. The staff were helpful and kept the grounds in tip top condition and a lovely touch was the Fairy Glen. We will definitely stop here again if travelling north-such good value for money.

Lovely site in a great location

I wanted to explore the North of the Lakes and found this site. It's a great location, with the train line at the end of the entrance road. Although the actual station is a few miles away in either direction. One day we did a beautiful walk along the Eden Valley to Wetheral, a pretty little village with a lovely pub for lunch. As we approached the river we were lucky enough to see 2 otters playing in the river. We could not believe our luck. Another day we jumped on a train at nearby Armathwaite to Skipton in the Yorkshire Dales. The journey was amazing as we travelled through the pennines across to Skipton. I have done the journey many times in a car, but on a train you get a whole different perspective. Loved our stay at Englethwaite Hall. There seemed to be 2 sets of wardens, all were really friendly and helpful. They did an amazing job of keeping the grounds beautiful. Loved the fairy garden, a nice little touch.

Lovely site

Very pretty site, wardens keep the site clean and tidy and the grounds are pretty and well kept. The wardens just seemed to keep the site effortlessly and quietly got on with their job. We loved it here. Approach road a bit narrow but taken carefully it was no problem.

Motorhome service point

The position of the Motorhome service point on this site is very poor . Emptying a modern Motorhome is impossible unless you have hoses and filling is not easy . The road is completely blocked by your vehicle when using the service point. We experienced some hostility from other site users because we had blocked the road . The site wardens answer to this was “they just have to wait” . When we tried to empty in the standard grey waste drain adjacent to our Pitch (58) with our hoses we were chastised by the warden . I got the feeling the warden was not a fan of Motorhomes

Lovely setting

We stayed for one night, on our way to Scotland. Site is in a lovely setting, and it was great to see sheep and sometimes horses, from our window, in the field next to the site. Glad we read the instructions on how to enter the site avoiding roads unsuitable for caravan.

Englethwaite Hall

Lovely peaceful site. We stay here quite often either for one night, on the the way to/from Scotland or for week long stays. The pitches are well laid out and well maintained. There are several nice walks close to the site. The M6 isn't too far away but you can't hear the motorway. Carlisle is near at hand and plenty of shopping. The only problem is that the mobile phone signal and 4G isn't very good. There is no site wi-fi only a small area near the site office.

What a fantastic site

A big thank you to the Wardens who were friendly, helpful, and accommodating. The site is extremely well maintained and a great place to spend a peaceful holiday. There are several great walks from the site, in the forest, or down by the river. There is also a fantastic village Pub about a mile away in Cotehill, The Greyhound Inn.
