Great stay at Haycraft in our motorhome.

We enjoyed our stay on this excellent site. It is small, well laid out and beautifully kept. The toilets and showers were spotlessly clean and worked well. Delightful wardens who are working safely and efficiently and our thanks for all their hard work. Our stay was for 3 nights at the end of September in mixed weather. We like to park our motor home then use buses wherever possible and this site suited us well for this way of getting around. We caught the number 40 bus into Swanage at 9.33am (perfect for bus pass use). Turn left out of the site and walk up the road up a steep hill for around 15 minutes at a steady plod then at the junction turn right and the bus stop is just a few yards along. (Post box there also). The bus takes around 15 minutes into Swanage. It returns to Haycrafts Lane on the hour from the station and the first day we stayed on the bus back and went on to Wareham for a wander (nice walk along the river too) and then back on the bus again to Corfe for a wander and a nice cream tea at the Model Village cafe. The 40 route is Swanage to Poole. The second day we caught the same bus into Swanage then took the 50 at 10.25 from the station to Bournemouth. The 50 is half open topped upstairs and takes the route via the ferry across to Sandbanks, a lovely route of about an hour with great views of Brownsea Island from the ferry (you are not allowed off the bus). Stops at Studland Beach and the ferry point for Brownsea Island at the Sandbanks side of the ferry along the way. Times and service may change in the winter so do check. Good walks from the site I would think but the weather was showery so we didn’t follow any of the paths. The information hut was open and had helpful leaflets etc. We look forward to returning to the site as it was a lovely stay.

Very enjoyable stay

Stayed 2 weeks in September. Although the facilities are a little bit tired the cleanliness was to a very high standard. The regular wardens are very helpful, efficient and friendly. All this makes it a site you want to return to. Already booked for next year.

Haycraft bliss

Stayed at haycraft for first two weeks of September. One of our favourite sites and never fails to impress. In a great location, lovely and quiet apart from the sounds of the local wildlife and nearby steam train. Woodpeckers, owls and squirrels in abundance and if you are prepared to get up at dawn you will see a family of deer wandering the site! The classic vehicle rally just down the road was a great visit, right next to the railway station. Lovely weather prompted us to take a pleasure boat trip to Poole from nearby Swanage, great views of Harry Rednapps old house at sandbanks and the varied coastline, along with an interesting commentary made for a very enjoyable day out. An open top bus ride from Swanage to Bournemouth via the chain ferry at studland another great day out. Nearby Wareham is a nice place to visit and enjoy an ice-cream by the river. So many places to visit locally where amazing coastal views take your breath away, and the same can be said for the countryside views also. Swanage itself is a Victorian seaside town with lovely level walks and plenty of places to eat. That the facilities are ageing is a small price to pay whilst enjoying this site and all it has to offer. Our only gripe being the missus, who is disabled having to wait for the relief warden to finish showering,in the disabled facilities which we found a bit thoughtless. But all in all a great holiday at a great site, where we met some lovely people. Even washing the dishes outdoors is enjoyable at Haycraft with the sun on your back,I must be going soft!

A lovely short break in September

We were recommended to try this site by friends and had a great time. Easy to find, although I was glad to be in a small campervan rather than towing a caravan as the access road is pretty narrow. We were able to site ourselves in a small grassy area of just 5 pitches, with a great view across the hills to the sea. The hard standing pitches were very well laid out and clearly very popular with plenty of people staying for longer periods. I see others have commented on the showers, but I thought they were fine - good pressure and plenty of hot water. The facilities were also very clean with clear signs re COVID care and plenty of sanitiser. Very quiet at night and a peaceful start to each day. Fabulous location from which to explore Swanage, Studland etc. and we will definitely be returning.

Our favourite site

We have been coming back to this site for 5 years or more now. The Wardens, Andie, Al and Lexi and Jackie and Trevor are very welcoming and eager to help with any problem, directions or information. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable. The site is perfectly situated for visiting Swanage, Studland, Lulworth and beyond. The most beautiful beach at Knoll, perfect for families. The dog walk is just right and enough for our elderly girl. The walk to Corfe Castle from the site is well worth doing and you can get the steam train back. My only moan is the showers, They need updating (come on Caravan Club sort them out) The wardens do a great job at keeping them clean (which I know is quite a job). Looking forward to going back.

lovely site with great dog walks

we stayed for just one night as part of an 11 night trip around Dorset. From here, we went to Swanage for an afternoon. It was a really lovely town and we stayed longer than planned. We had impromptu fish & chips for tea, walked along the pier and perused some of the shops. We took the dog for a walk 3 times from the site - there's a fenced (short) walk as well as a gate through to a public footpath which leads through to some fields with a fabulous view of Corfe Castle. We didn't walk to castle but could have done. The site was clean and quiet. Really nice. Would definitely stay again.

Another enjoyable stay here

Good for visiting many places eg Durlston Country Park, Studland, Lulworth Cove/Durdle Door, Lulworth Castle, local towns and walks direct from site. Only downside for us was heavy grey waste cover on the slope so very grateful for assitant/relief warden's help. For info - I found turning down the water flow in the shower stopped flooding/clothes getting wet. We will return at some point as we like the peaceful location.

Not really for us

As previously mentioned the showers need updating. The shower goes all over the place including splashing dry clothes. Really disappointed with the view from pitches. You have to go to highest level and strain your neck for a good view The dog walk is good, but again the view is not good (scrap yard of some sort). Washing machine out of order (only one). Staff lovely. Location ok. Swanage and Corfe Castle were great. Unfortunately the steam train was restricted and could only pick up from Swanage, not the sites fault but maybe useful to note.
