Easter Getaways with the Caravan and Motorhome Club

25/03/2024

The Caravan and Motorhome Club offers advice for tourers on how to unwrap their leisure vehicles and hit the roads for the Easter holiday to start the touring season.

Don’t miss out! The Easter weekend is just around the corner and there's still availability at some egg-cellent campsites across the UK. Plus, the Club has lowered prices on over 1.5 million pitches in 2024, meaning tourers could save on selected campsites and dates.

For some, touring is a year-round pastime, but for many, the Easter school holidays mark the start of the touring season and there has never been a better time to book that next outdoor adventure with the Spring Getaway deal. This great offer gives 10 percent off both people and pitch price for travel booked by 16 May 2024, valid for stays from 2 April until the end of May 2024. Visit camc.com/ukoffers for more details.

In addition to the new offers, the Club endeavours to always offer more to members.  Under-fives and dogs stay for free; awnings are included at no extra cost when staying on an appropriate pitch type; free electric hook-up when staying on an appropriate pitch; hot showers are free on campsites with shower facilities and free Wi-Fi service is available at 146 UK Club campsites.

Prepare your leisure vehicle for the touring season

Once the trip is booked, the Caravan and Motorhome Club has plenty of advice on getting your caravan, motorhome or campervan ready after its winter break. Your vehicle might have had a nice winter rest, but is it fighting fit for more adventures? It’s ideal to schedule an annual habitation service (and base vehicle service for motorhomes and campervans) before the season’s touring commences. Workshops may be busy right now, so hopefully you’ve already booked that in. If not, try www.approvedworkshops.com for ones near you.

If servicing’s not due just yet, do leave time for some basic DIY checks before that first trip away. Check tyres for age, condition and pressure, roadlights for function and damage, that the brakes are not seized and that the handbrake functions correctly. Don’t forget to check the condition and pressure of the spare tyre and make sure the spare wheel rack mechanism will release the wheel should you need it. On caravans, check the breakaway cable and stabiliser pads for condition and make sure corner steadies move freely. On motorhomes and campervans, do routine engine checks (fluids, battery etc.) and try to fit in a short test run before setting off on a proper trip.

Do a spring clean inside and out. A clean outfit is easier to keep clean! Review everything you carry with you. Do you really need it all? Did you use it last year? Carry less of what you don’t need to reduce weight (and improve fuel economy).

Ready to set off? Remember your manoeuvring skills might be a little rusty too. Take things easy getting out of your storage area especially if there’s a narrow gateway at the exit. A little extra time and someone to watch you in tighter spaces could avoid an unfortunate start to the year.   For more information about the Caravan and Motorhome Club’s training courses, please see: www.camc.com/courses
