Road closure on approach to The Howard, Rosedale Abbey Caravan Club Site
Published:
06 September 2010
We have recently been advised by the local Highways Authority
that the road between Cropton and Rosedale village will be closed
entirely from 6 September to mid afternoon on 10 September, and
from 13 September to mid afternoon 17 September for road
works. You may wish to amend your booking, but if this is not
possible we would advise you follow a different route to the site
as follows:
Leave the A170 Pickering - Thirsk road just to the East of
Kirbymoorside at Keldholme, and head North on the road signposted
"Hutton le Hole" and "Castleton". This is a good road and you
should continue for several miles, through Hutton le Hole, and
carry straight on towards Castleton. Pass the Lion Inn high on the
moors at Blakey Ridge, and take the first right turn after that pub
signposted Rosedale Abbey. Continue down into the valley,
taking care as you go because the road is narrow in places but
quite suitable for caravans and motorhomes. Go through the village
of Rosedale and you'll find the site on your right.
Please don't be tempted to try the moor road from Hutton le Hole
to Rosedale Abbey because of the very steep hill called "Chimney
Bank" into Rosedale, which is not suitable for a caravan or
motorcaravan.
