Caravan holidays 'help to save the planet'

Caravanners taking summer breaks are not only enjoying themselves, they appear to be helping to save the planet as well.
Research from Lancaster University investigated the environmental impact of two people taking their caravan on a touring holiday.
It was found that the couple's overnight stay in their caravan would emit just 4kg of carbon dioxide - compared to the half-tonne of greenhouse gas that is emitted by a couple flying to Spain and back.
This is a dramatic difference, the study finds, which indicates that overseas tourism in a caravan is much better for the environment than flying.
The exhaustive study measured hundreds of carbon-producing variables, from the energy required to deliver goods and services to the power required to boil a kettle for that all-important cup of tea, finding caravanning to be one of the greenest ways to take a holiday.
However, caravanners who are planning trips abroad this summer have recently been urged by Skoda and the RAC to brush up on foreign driving laws before travelling.
