When the temperature drops severely, icy and snowy conditions can make driving more dangerous.
Therefore, it is important for motorists to prepare for the worst and know what steps to take if they are involved in an accident.
AM Drive & Survive training specialist Simon Elstow said: "The reality is nobody wants to think about having a car accident.
But it’s important to be prepared in case you are involved in one."
If a road accident occurs, it is crucial to be aware of passing traffic and make sure that they are aware of the car.
First switch off the engine and turn on the hazard lights, then look for a safe place to exchange details.
The drivers involved should note down each other's names, addresses and registration numbers as well as the make, model and colour of the cars.
Motorists must inform their insurance provider of what happened as soon as possible.
Only contact the police if there has been an accusation of dangerous driving, or if anyone has sustained an injury as a result of the accident
