Plan ahead for cold weather journeys

The Highways Agency is urging motorists to take precautions if they are planning to drive in severe weather conditions.
Drivers should leave enough time on the morning of their journey to prepare the car, de-ice the windows and pack some cold weather essentials.
Jason Glasson of the Highways Agency's winter team recommends taking enough winter clothes for all of the passengers.
"Although the forecast suggests you are unlikely to need a snow shovel this week, you should make sure you have plenty of warm clothing for you and your passengers. If you break down on the motorway it’s dangerous to stay in your vehicle," he said.
It follows a cold weather alert from the Met Office, which has predicted that the whole of the UK will experience sub-zero temperatures over the weekend.
Some places can expect temperatures as low as minus eleven degrees C.
Perhaps surprisingly given the cold weather, the Highways Agency has also warned drivers to ensure that they pack their sunglasses.
This is because there is a risk of being dazzled by low sun through a frosty windscreen early in the morning.
