County Durham offers a wealth of walking opportunities, despite the cold weather.
The Ramblers in Durham has organised a selection of light weekend walks to make winter exercise easy and accessible.
Project co-ordinator Marianne Patterson believes that the invigorating and scenic routes are suitable to all ages and abilities, enabling the whole family to "march away the winter cobwebs".
"There’s no need to wait until it’s warmer to start enjoying the outdoors," she said.
The Get Walking Keep Walking campaign includes a four-mile stroll along the riverside and old railway lines of Willington in February.
For families with children on half term, the Ramblers has also organised an easy walk from Shildon Railway Museum in March.
County Durham is just one of a number of UK locations which are great for family walks in the colder months.
In Cardiff, a winter walk by the Lisvane Reservoir provides great exercise in a scenic setting and the opportunity to glimpse some wild fowl.
