Ferry crossings allow access to Europe's great cities

Holidaymakers will find that ferry crossings are one of the most
affordable and most convenient methods of visiting some of the
greatest cities in Europe.
Whether they want to sample the delights of Brittany, or embrace
Irish culture in Dublin, there is sure to be a route to suit,
suggested Bill Gibbons, director of the Passenger Shipping
Association.
He pointed out that much of Europe is accessible from one ferry
port or another, with the likes of Boulogne and Lille particularly
growing in popularity over recent years.
"Some ferry journeys offer an overnight crossing with en-suite
cabins so you can arrive refreshed before a full day of driving
ahead of you - the experience resembles more a mini-cruise than a
simple crossing," commented Mr Gibbons.
The expert emphasised that ferry travel is now much more
comfortable than it was in the past, with vessels kitted out with
all sorts of facilities from bars to gourmet restaurants.
